Monteverde Fire Opal. This ink is a stunner, with good reason. A wonderful orange-red that shades well and is dark enough to be legible for general writing. I haven't tried it outside of Clairefontaine paper yet, to see how well it behaves on less-fancy papers.

So many fantastic oranges!

I have not sampled Blood Orange —yet—, and I may have to give it a try. It looks very similar to Copper Noir in your scans. Do you find that to be true under regular light?

I'm looking at my sample cards under natural light. Yes, it is very similar but there are some differences the scanner missed.

Copper Noir has more of a yellowish tone to it, Blood Orange has more of a cherry red/pink tone. Smeared (as on the dry-time measurements), Copper Noir has a rust-like look, while Blood Orange has a terracotta look to it. It's tough to declare which one writes darker; sometimes its Blood Orange, sometimes Copper Noir - it's really how the pen puts down ink. Both are darker than Fire Opal.

Many of these look dark enough for letter writing. Often the non-gourmet orange inks are pale and more suited to highlighting.

Hello dear fans of orange, here's my newly arrived ORANGE pen. It's inked with Krishna Sakthy. Sakthy sheens an almost indecent metallic gold.

Here are some swatches of other oranges this pen is looking forward to.

That would make a perfect entry for our April combo project: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/334810-april-coord-ink-ation-2018-monthly-ink-combo-project/

Some excellent orange inks from a very generous benefactor who spoils me with wonderful inks...

First, is a really great deep orange (my favorite shade), COLORVERSE Opus 88 "TANGO":

And another Colorverse ink, #31 Electron:

OOOOOO Very nice.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have Blazing Sunset inked in an orange Sheaffer Targa now. It really is a nuclear-vivid orange and is a lot of fun.

I hope some kind soul will be kind enough to post 3 specific Oranges on the same page, side by side:

Private Reserve "Tangerine Dream"

Private Reserve " Shoreline Gold"

Noodler's "Habanero"

... and just for fun Private Reserve "Orange Crush" (which from what I have read is more a Red-Orange than a True Orange).

Thanks

Today was a good day to check if Diamine Pumpkin is really pumpkin coloured. Happy Halloween!

All my swatches on different paper are shown to compare. One paper makes this colour lean towards the pink side (Tomoe River 52gsm) while the others show a nice orange orange.

Hmm not convinced it's quite pumpkin in shade, needs more rustiness to be a nice burnt orange pumpkin shade.

I have recently ordered a few inks from Papier Plume. I really like this burnt orange. It is a bit under-saturated but moderately dry and has some nice shading. It is an ink that actually darkens as it dries. It looks great on ecru paper. It is certainly a good match for my M800 Burnt Orange pen.

What gorgeous colours 😍😍😍

And beautiful writing, David!

I currently only have Noodler's Habanero, which I love, and Krishna autumn (the latter not used or tested yet)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
