CUTE! The wash is super nice on this!

So, is anyone selling Robert Oster inks commercially?

I love red.

This is wonderful. Red makes my world go 'round.

Matador is great, but oh, those freakishly long dry times for Noodler inks. I've just about given up on them.

I love seeing the other similar inks! Grapefruit is one I never tried —looks like it may be a good one to have!

I have 3 of the 6 inks, so I wouldn't do well on the quiz ;) . But I did try a crazy experiment with KWZ Maroon: I added copper sparkles, and it's REALLY intense. When I have some time tomorrow, I'll take pictures...

Shoot, I couldn't name the inks.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Lamy Red - this is "ballpoint pen red". Glad I bought this one only as a pack of 5 cartridges. Maybe useful for highlighting but not much else.

Diamine Oxblood - this is from a fine, somewhat dry nib.

On a wetter pen (a glass dip pen in this case) it comes out very dark. (Same paper, Clairefontaine)

Have you noticed any significant sheen on the Black Cherry? It's a very consistent sheener for me, but it may be that my bottle is unusual —or just old...

I'm not really seeing any significant sheen on Black Cherry - but my bottle is also old.

Montblanc Bordeaux Red. This is an older Montblanc color, purchased in the early 2000s before they reformulated their colors. (Ignore the reference to "burgundy red", a modern color, in the sample). This sample is on 20lb copy paper, rather than the usual Rhodia paper I use for samples.

Well, if I had to pick, the Claret would be my #1, followed closely by Bordeaux. The Burgundy comes in 3rd --it's too violet/pink to be a favorite...

How I would pick them too.

And now for a touch of wine from a recent CRV with Amberlea: deA Cabernet Sauvignon and Diamine Syrah. Cheers!

OMAS Amerigo Vespucci Red. I think this may have been a limited edition red ink, but I'm no longer sure. It's been many years such I purchased this bottle and sadly, OMAS is out of business.

My scanner/monitor combo captures this as a strawberry red, but it's actually more of a burgundy red with blue undertones. It's dark enough to use for general writing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
