Momento By Goldspot?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Momento fountain pens by Goldspot. "An exclusive brand of writing instruments" says the Goldspot catalog, which I assume I received today on account of ordering some De Atramentis ink from their eBay shop a few weeks ago. Attractive pen, but with some odd details and at a strange price point. Just high enough that it needs to be pretty darn good pen to justify the expense, but just low enough to make me suspect it's cheap, rather than inexpensive.

I would like to bring attention back to this thread, as my curiosity for info on them was induced. Haven't really found much to go off of...

I was just doing a search to find out a little about the Momento brand. Naturally, most FP searches lead to FPN :D

I have been looking at the "Islands" FP for a gift for a med. student doing volunteer/study abroad work in the Dominican Republic. ( also helping with the sea turtles ) I thought this would be a fun pen for journaling and a reminder of those trips and friendships made along the way...

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about them so am reluctant to buy it. I have purchased items directly from the Goldspot website.I haven't ever received a catalog. Does the catalog give any information regarding the brand, maker, nib.. anything ?

I'll post if I learn anything new :) Thanks for bringing up the topic. Hopefully someone out there has purchased a Momento pen??

And here comes Jon to save the day!

Or Answer a question!

Hello there. So A few months ago Goldspot had this pen on sale, and I have been looking at it for a while and decided for the price ($17 bucks!) I couldn't really go wrong. I ordered it up, it came and then...

I was blown away.

Seriously, this is a cool pen. The weight is good, just a little bit heavier than my Safari but not any heavier than my Conklin Duragraph. Size-wise it's actually the longest pen I own. It is just over 5 1/2 inches long capped, and just under 6 1/2 posted!

The color? Stunning. The blues and greens are bright and vibrant, but what you can't really see in the picture is that this thing has a crazy faceted look to it. The pen is smooth and round, but it almost looks like cracked ice or a gemstone. It gives off a ton of chatoyance with each of these, and a side effect of that is the edges of these "facets" give off a very subtle white sheen-y border. It totally looks like sea-foam as some of the spots have more white than others. The fade from blue to green also has lighter, almost white sections in between them that help make the color pop. It is also somewhat transparent, and catches the light really well.

It has a dark finial that is made of a type of plastic or resin. It is actually clear, but has a dark logo of aring around what I think is an M, that kinda looks like one of those "V shaped birds in the distance" that you see on quick drawing and such.

The clip is fairly springy and works well. It has a very, VERY shallow turn to unscrew the pen. It's not even a full rotation of the cap, but I have experienced no cross-threading of any kind, and it actually feels very sturdy.

Threads and step are extremely shallow and not sharp at all, and the section is quite comfortable.

The Nib I got was a fine sized nib, and it looks to be around a 5 or a 6. It features some scroll work and says Iridium Point Germany.

I inked it up and this thing is incredibly smooth. Not sure if I just got a really well tuned nib, but it glides across the paper with ease. On Rhodia or Clairefontaine? It's like glass. It does have a teeny- tiny bit of tooth though, so it doesn't feel waxy like a nib that has baby's bottom might. It writes nice and wet, with a very consistent flow. Not too much line variation, this nib is a bit stiff, but if you carefully try you can get a tiny bit.

The only complaint I have it that there is, or rather was, A MOMENTO written is some sort of stamp or writing just above the bottom of the cap, often where you see a lot of center bands with names on them. It is now gone. I have pretty oily hands and it seems to have just flaked off.

In conclusion, this was a wonderful find and an extremely happy purchase. If I had gotten to try it in a store I would have definitely paid full price for it.

This a reboot of a pen made by Libelle. The collection , I believe, was Seasons and this was Summer.

It was listed at $80.00 or so and then was discounted for clearance at a much lower price, about $30.

It is surprisingly well weighted and writes nicely.

There are posts and reviews on FPN.

Enjoy your obscure find!

I'm looking at this pen, too, because of the pretty summery colors, my favorites. Not many reviews that I could find. After reading this thread, I think I'll get it. Thanks!

I've had this pen, with the M nib, for a couple of days and I agree with Penover's review above. This is a beautiful pen! The finish and ocean colors, from deep vibrant (Sargasso Sea?) blue through watery bottle green and white, catch the light below the surface and just pop. It writes well, too, with a nice wet line. I paid about $30 at goldspot and am very pleased with it. The only possible issue I see is that the cap can be slightly tricky to start to screw on and might be easy to cross-thread, but no problems so far. Loving this little jewel of a pen.

I just got this pen today, in fine, and left a review on the Goldspot site. Nice wet fine line. I was influenced to go for it because of the review above. Thanks for the information!

Oh, and the black foot "pedestal" bottom lets you stand the pen up! I work at a college and really hope my students will notice this pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
