Wow! December is moving along quickly. I'm hoping not many folks see this thread. Fewer entries means I have a better chance. ;)

Paypal order for postcards just sent. Free entry going out in tomorrow's mail.

Keeping my fingers crossed (I made the mistake of trying to pick out what I want if I win...).

Thanks everybody! 32 participants so far. Entry period ends Saturday the 13th around 9pm Central US time.

If you already have a set of cards, I would be happy to send them to somebody as a gift. Just let me know an address to send them to. :)

Well, one set went into the package for the person whose name I got for the Secret Santa exchange. And if I don't end up using them they may end up in a raffle next spring at an SCA event -- it's a fundraiser that is called "Pick a Prize" (the proceeds go towards a travel fund to help defray the cost of the Royalty going to various events to give out awards). People donate stuff and if one of your tickets is drawn you get to pick something off the table (and people tend to scope out what they have their eyes on over the entire weekend -- the raffle is Sunday morning). I have seen everything from a camel saddle to sets of metal tankards to art books to clothing and shoes to kids' toys (the first couple of years of the raffle there were a lot of donated brand new "Hunchback of Notre Dame" -- Disney version -- toys). And have gotten, over the years, some really nice fabric, a set of mini measuring spoons ("pinch", "dash" and IIRC "smidgen"), sets of fairly nice cloth napkins, and what's called an aquitaine (a small ring-style sundial on a chain)

It hasn't sunk in yet. It feels like I'm still wishing I would win.

Thanks Shawn

:)

Thank you. Without you and everybody who bought postcards and donated, this scholarship wouldn't be possible.

I'll be applying for charity status this coming year and hopefully this will open up more income for the kids.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
