A newish blue (purple-leaning), the lovely Monteverde Charoite. I understand the gemstone it is named after is more purple, but the ink looks pretty blue to me.

I think the Charoite is quite lovely.

KWZ Walk Over Vistula. I had read about this ink here on FPN, but seeing it live at the San Francisco Pen Show this year made it a must-buy. My partner found it while spending time at the ink sampling tables.

Walk Over Vistula is a deep, saturated blue that runs slightly to teal. It sheens red/purple on Clairefontaine.

Walk Over Vistula is an absolutely lovely shade, I'm enamored at first sight. Love the sheen too!

How does it perform on less than top quality papers? And how does it feel writing, dry or smooth?

I haven't really tested Walk Over Vistula on poorer quality papers yet. It was loaded in my Cross ATX, which is an extremely wet writer so it's hard to judge the ink on its own merits - though it does seem to be a somewhat wet ink. I decided a wet pen wasn't best to bring out the full character of this ink, since the pen puts so much ink down on the page and leaves a dark line without much opportunity for shading.

My Lamy 2000 (F nib) is just about out of Monteverde Horizon Blue, so I'll load Walk Over Vistula into it next and evaluate it for feel and performance.

Diamine China Blue is quite sensitive to how 'wet' or 'dry' a pen/nib is, I reckon.

fpn_1601005580__diamine_china_blue_exper

Same pen, same converter, same fill of ink, no fiddling with the nib or feed during that time, twelve hours apart:

fpn_1601005479__different_shades_of_diam

I don't know why the pen/nib got wetter without further user intervention in the twelve or so hours between the two sessions, but something did "happen".

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

For the #50shadesofbluechallenge (link to the hashtag on Instagram), a challenge over at the German PenExchange forum for July & August 2020, I inked up all my pens with all the 50+ blue inks I have. The snapshots I still keep finding in my files (waiting to be posted, ahem) might also be of interest to some here. -- A quick search did not bring me to a dedicated review of this ink, so I just post here: Pilot-Namiki Blue Black (cartridges), just some pretty pictures.

fpn_1602000447__2020_08_09_50sob_pilot_bfpn_1602000473__2020_08_09_50sob_pilot_bI had this ink in a Pilot Parallel Pen with a 1.5 mm nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
