I frequently come back and stare at these amazing comparisons in a vain attempt to try and choose between Miurai and Shigure. And maybe Yama-Dori. I already pulled the trigger on Souten, Tokiwa-Massu, and Oku-yama-- mostly because of this thread-- but I can't decide on the last one! (I only have room for one more on my Sailor ink shelf, and I'm a little bit anal about such things). ;)

Well, it's three quite different colours you're choosing from.

I think you'll have to decide which colour you need/want.

Dark blue/purple, dark green or light teal.

he sheen will come with any of them.

If you look at the poll results... YAMADORI is the ONE not to miss. Go for it.

I'm really tempted to buy a bottle of Oku-Yama, I love how it sheens and shades. But since I almost only use my pens at work, I don't really see any use for kind of colour. A bit frustrating actually.

But... I bought my wife a Metropolitan, which she seems to like. Maybe I can buy the ink for her, and borrow some now and then.... :)

I've been thinking about ordering one or two of these inks, but I can't make up my mind.

It seems like I have to buy them all, they are all really nice in their own ways. Just have to take it step by step, maybe order two bottle per month until I have all of them.

I already have Yama-dori, so I can leave that one out of the equation...

I already had them all but bought another complete set for US$54, including shipping, from Global Rakuten. An inkredible bargain not to be missed, especially as they are sold for around £16 each bottle here in the UK. There isn't one that I dislike - and I'm addicted to that Sailor ink smell :-)

In Sweden they are £10.90/€14.75/$16.60 per bottle including shipping. I think I will buy them here.

Putting up $54.00 at once for some ink feels a bit steep, I also want another pen....

That's a good price too.

Try Tokiwa-Matsu if you haven't got it yet. Wonderful ink.

Thanks very much for this great review.

Your comments regarding the cleaning properties of Do-you in part led me here, i have this irrational paranoia about staining ink windows!

I really like dark greens, and Miruai therefore appeals to me. Did you have any problems flushing this ink out of your pens?

I don't remember. Miruai is not my favourite colour so it doesn't get much use from me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
