Why does an orange or blue clear custom 74 cost nearly twice as much as a plain clear one?

Some colors are made for the American market. The 74 is cheaper in Japan.

The clear ones are manufactured in America; therefore, it is marked up.

Japan ones (opaque, solid color models) are cheaper because they are manufactured overseas.

I have posted a similar thread to this a while ago with several responses.

The translucent Custom 74 models are made in Japan, but they are the only Custom 74s officially marketed in the United States. The extreme cost difference between markets is unfortunate. I could see them being a bit more expensive here, but a 100% increase seems excessive.

Engeika? The music nib and cosu nib will be pricier compared to the standard nib offerings of the custom 74 which also has the soft nibs on the black color BLACK ONLY which for some odd reasons isnt being sold in the USofA
