Vintage Mont Blanc 146

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Mont Blanc 146, which I believe to be an old one.

I have attached photos, as I don't really understand The topic of Mont Blanc pens I would greatly appreciate any guide as to the age of the pen as well as its potential value.

The uppermost section is stamped/engraved 146 and op-.

The pens mechanism is some sort of vacuum/ screw type.

Thanks in advance,

Nikita

(P.s sorry, my iPad only let me post 1 image, please post if more are needed.)

Seems to be an item from 50's.

It's a telescopic piston.

Show the feed to determinate early or late 50's.

I dont understand the stamp. O for oblique, but p for what ?

Cost about $650/800. It depends.

You can get information on this pen from this pinned topic at the top of the Mb forum.

If you wish to find an approximate sale price you could try ebay sold listings, but it might be difficult to find one that has sold

The nib currently in the pen isn't an oblique nib

Thanks for all the help.

The feed is one thing I did know and it's the later type of feed,

I'll hopefully try to get the right nib later to make the pen original.

I think I also might have made a mistake with the stamp, I think it might say OF-

Thanks so much again.

Nikita :)

Well, an oblique fine is rather difficult to find, moreover in part.

More easy maybe to find another turning knob.

Never heard of an oblique fine nib. As far as I know oblique starts with M.

Very nice and desirable pen which looks to be in nice condition (e.g. Ink window looks good).

Montblanc offered OF nibs on several pen types in the past; to me this is a great and interesting nib.

Market value should be in the range of 400-700€ depending on if the pen needs and restauration work.

Cheers

Michael

Be nice to see a picture of the feed....there was a feed change in @1955. I have a 234 1/2 Deluxe that was supposed to be made only in '52-54 with a '55 feed. So the '55 feed could have come out a tad earlier.

Max has some pictures up in the pinned section, about feeds and nibs.

Your nib could well be semi-flex or 'flexi'/maxi-semi-flex. Those were standard nibs on first class pens like a Soennecken, MB or Pelikan.

My 146 is '70-80's, with "only" a very nice springy regular flex nib.

Coming from the silver dime days of Standard and Medium-large...I find the large 146 to be Large.

I was looking more for the '50's medium-large it was then...as read.

I have a couple of Pelikan OF nibs, and another which I don't remember right now.

I have in @15&30 degree grind '50's obliques in OBB, OB, OM and OF. Pure luck in none of the sellers knew....neither did I at first.

Hi,

Thanks for all of the info and support.

I've managed to find the Mont Blanc box and take some better photos, including one of the feed.

Thanks again,
Nikita

The Meisterstuck line is timeless. I just never get tired of this design. It looks to be in pretty good condition considering the age.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
