Deepwater Obsession Black-Red has stunning color that I Like a lot. I like almost everything about this ink. It has however one unpleasant behaviour - it feathers on absorbent papers. If you know the ionk that has this color and doesn't feather, please, tell me - it'll be my inky grail :)

I've heard that the new De A thinner will help the feathering. I haven't confirmed that myself. The wine inks have totally wowed me. I didn't expect this one to be so purple. I really like their products.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Wow - I never would have guessed. My midnight obsession - deep water obsession - and denim all are kind of black / green and it put me off a bit. I really like this color though. On the order list. Thanks for the review. Great scans.

Now this is a lovely color... and right up my alley.

I had a very bad experience with Deep Obsession Blue.... it is GREEN!!!!!!.. and although I like a dark green, I was not happy with that. I skipped the rest not knowing what will come out of the bottle. This one though, is what Deep Red should look like.... ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Have you tried Noodler's Purple Wampum, also this look VERY similar to my Sheaffer Skrip Purple! It looks purple to me vs red-black. However, I am also reminded of Noodler's Ottoman Rose.

I'd have to agree about the feathering on absorbent paper, but I finally grabbed a bottle of this ink last week and it is just beautiful on the page! The shading from deep magenta to almost-black is lovely. I only wish it was more water resistant, but that's quite hard to come by in anything in the red category.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
