OK team, I rarely ask values but what would this set FP + BP be worth with their cigar case in matching wood. The pens are new unused.

Lovely Man 100 fountain pen in Briarwood just sold on ebay a few days ago for $207.50 (item 161453162839, end Oct 23, 2014 06:52 PDT if you want to look it up). I am not sure about the relative desirability of the briarwood vs coloured woods (must admit a personal preference for the former). I would expect that the rollerball to fetch the usual proportion less than the fountain pen if sold separately. From my informal spectating of sales, matching sets are a blessing and a curse, as there are a few people intent on the matched set who might pay a premium and perhaps more potential buyers that are not interested in the rollerball and thus would not pay a premium.

The ebay sale was listed without the key words that might have attracted the buyers interested in these rarer pens. So I think the pen went for quite a bit less than it might have. I was tempted but thought that I should exhibit zen like restraint....

In addition, it seems (and others, please correct me if I am mistaken) that prices are typically higher on FPN than "great deals" on ebay, but it comes with the additional surety of a good seller and accurate representation, not a negligible consideration.

Those are really beautiful pens.

I'm not the biggest fan for sets, but something like that does make me see the light.

Best of luck.

Hi Force

For this Fontainebleau set with wood holder (with box ans papers ?) you can have 300/350 euros

The blue set is rarest and most wanted !

Hah, and that's only for the FP in a blue box.

Well, he can ask, but will it sell??

So 140 euro was a fair price.

Is that what you paid for it recently??

Yes, just yesterday morning. There are a couple of fin tips broken on the FP feed but that can soon be sorted out.

Very well done....

And those fins won't interfere with writing at all.

No not yet and I hope it's not another iPhone 5s.....

Aww shucks...

No, let's hope not.

So far I have never really bought on the bay (except one time from JML which went A OK. We never hear from him any more....)

And your story isn't actually a good incentive...

One to watch.

Did JML not have some disagreement with Waterman on selling prices. I have seen him on the GREAT RIVER selling site once or twice.

The blue fontainebleau. The second from the left in my collection MAN pens... I really love this color!

I really like the wooden versions of the MAN but I just don't dare to write with them because I'm scared to damage them...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
