HERO 2C "China's Answer to Cross Pen"?

Lumo

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of trying one of the low-cost Hero pens.

At $7.95 this seems fantastic, but has anyone tried it, I can't find much out about it on the web.

What's the build quality of these pens like, claims to be a copy of a cross, will it last anything as long?

Are there any Hero pens that you would particularly recommend, I'm not so keen on the Parker 51 copy hooded nib look smile.gif

Lumo - build quality on cheap Chinese pens is often good. Except for scratchy nibs (easily cured with some micromesh) my $5 Hero 329's are excellent with nicely machined heavy metal caps, and elegant resin barrels. Smoothed, with the Parker name on them, they could easily sell for $100-$200.

Quality control can be spotty, but if you get a bad pen you can always send it back - if at $8 you can be bothered. If you're curious, I'd take the risk and then tell us what the pen is like!

PS I notice Mars001 on ebay is selling them - I bought my 329's from him\her and he\she seemed like a good person to deal with.

Hero Review

This might help in regards to other Hero Pens that would be recommended. If you buy a 2C let us know how it goes. For $7.95 it would have to be horrible to consider it a loss.

Thanks for the comments smile.gif

Well I ordered one.

My main concern, apart from the nib, is what it is made of. But if the other Hero's are well built and quite tough hopefully this one won't scratch/crack at the first opportunity.

I'll post back when it arrives, but it could be a while given it has to come most of the way round the world. Hope it's not too long...

I have two Hero 100's - one black and one red. I fill the black one with black ink and the red one with ---- red ink! Although I have never owned or used a Parker 51 I have read that they closely mimic the 51.

I am a fan of fine nibs and the Hero 100 fine is about the finest that I have used. It writes smothly, with only a very occasional skip here and there. It is not particulary a wet wrtiter. Overall, I have been very pleased and at $27 each they seem to be worth it.

Hi Lumo,

I also have Hero 2C, that pen is nice. If you like to found Hero hood nib, you can try Hero 329, Hero 330, Hero 616 & Hero 100 (14K nib).

If you want to found lower price to try, you can try Hero 329, Hero 330 & Hero 616. That three model is common found in ebay. I receive my Hero 616 yesterday. The feel is very good.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
