Two years ago, FPNer Shawndo, purchased a lot of samples including every blue ink Goulet's had to offer.

Alas, Shawndo ran out of free inky time. I agreed to do these reviews. So here we are.

Great review Amber! Thank you! :)

I love Larmes de Cassis! It is a lovely muted pinkish purple that can have a varied effect depending on paper, pen and nib.

I especially like Larmes de Cassis in a wet broad nib on ivory colored paper, it has such a vintage floral feel.

Oh and I want to encourage you that I think you have made amazing progress with the Shanwdo reviews! Really!

You post a ton of stuff here on fpn along with the reviews and I know you give so much here. Don't feel guilty about anything. You give so much and you've got your family and work to care for too. Just don't forget to take time for AMBER to rest and relax!!! ;)

You're very welcome

I think us ladies are more prone to work so hard at everything we do we often wear ourselves out and rarely take the time we need to rest and replenish. I see it in myself, in my friends, other moms, etc. We need the reminder (and sometimes the validation and affirmation) from other women that it's really okay to just take a break for us. Take some time doing something not productive for once. It really can bring a refreshment to us. I know there are lots of times I need that reminder. And that's what friends are for, to help us in the big things and little things in life. :)

On a side note. My son was talking about friends today and he said "Mom you are a friend." I replied, "Yes I am so glad to be your friend." He shook his head, "No, no, I mean you are a friend." Confused, I asked him "What do you mean?" He said, "You know mommy, your friend Amber." I smiled, "You mean my friend that writes letters to me?" He jumped up "Yes! You write letters to Amber. She is your friend. You are her friend."

It made me feel happy. I realized how happy I am when I receive your letters and write back because even my five year old can see it. It made me realize how much I value the chance to get to exchange letters with you. It really is a bright spot in my day. :happyberet:

What a nice thing to say! Last night I was thinking about my pen pal from elementary school. We were penpals until I was married. I don't know how to find her, but I still think of her.

It makes me think I need to get more pen pals. :)

I write letters to a lot of friends and family but rarely do I get a letter back. The only exceptions are my mom and grandma. They usually take the time to write back a note or send a card. But I can write 3 letters a week to different people and get no response from any of them. I am happy to send out letters, but it feels really nice to receive letters too!

Here's a completed Co-Razy View of Larmes de Cassis that Amber sent to me along with her amber TWSBI 540 fitted with an Art's Tomahawk ground on a TWSBI "B" nib:

fpn_1416862284__jh_larmesdecassis_crvwat

I did a tiny water test: drops on a grid, and a rinse over the "Rinse Away?" done by applying the contents of a 500ml unitary wash bottle filled with (Brita-) filtered tap water. This ink shows very minimal water resistance.

The completed CRV prior to the water test can be seen here (scroll down a bit).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
