Interesting. Just lately I have been doing some research on my father who flew a B17 over Normandy on D-Day.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

That is an amazing story, and to think it all started with the discovery of a gold ring. It's interesting how the pen survived at all, for that length of time, a testament to Waterman manufacturing.

My late Father-in-Law would have appreciated this story, though he seldom talked about what he did in the RCAF. I really miss the man.

Bill was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) from his Majesty King George VI, in appreciation of bringing back his Lank, everyone safely aboard, with only one engine working. We never found any pens after his passing but a number of things in his kit was sent off to his squadron.

Curious how often a FP would burp going up & down in unpressurised cabin plus freezing temperatures too.

Perhaps the Edson was not the first Waterman to be able to fly.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
