What Ballpoint Pen Do You Use?

There are occasions when only a ballpoint will do.I recently bought a LAMY Noto ballpoint which some reviewer said was designed by Naoto Fukasawa.

I have about 30 FP and one ballpoint. I know want anyone to think I'm promoting ballpoints. I'm just curious about what people use.

What ballpoint/s do you use?

I use a Lamy 2000 ballpoint when at work this being the only time because I have no other option. I always carry a cheap Pilot throwaway for those times when I have to let other people sign my paperwork.

I am as selfish with that ballpoint as my FP's.

Use a parker Jotter, never fails, always reliable and pretty cheap to replace in case it did mess up. i'm the same, i carry bid's for other people to use so that they do't touch my parker lol.

Parker Sonnet Mini with Visconti gel refill (B). Writes likes a dream. I use a Pelikan K200 with again a gel refill.

Mostly Cross - Century, Apogee, Townsend... My fav writer is the Contour because of the lines on the grip.

I like a nice ballpoint for work because I take a lot of really quick notes and make lists to check off. Uncapping a fountain pen just seems excessive to write a couple words. Right now I have:

Maxmadco Ti bolt action

Tibolt

Kara's Kustoms Retrakt aluminum

Kara's Kustoms Retrakt brass

Pelikan K215

Rotring 600

Parker Jotter

Bought quite a few just recently searching for what I like the best, will probably get rid of a couple eventually. Really liking the Maxmadco and Retrakt.

I do carry a ballpoint for those moments (rare tho they are) when nothing else will do. I alternate between an Adler pocket pen that was given to me by a local staffing agency (touchscreen stylus on one end, LED light on the other) and another giveaway that came to my workplace in the mail imprinted with the name of the company where I was security chief. It had a really good, solid feel in the hand and a smooth-working mechanism. Management didn't want it, so I kept it for myself.

Of course, any ballpoint is no better than its refill. Fortunately, the Adler refills are very good and are available online. I put a Papermate refill in the other pen, and now it writes very well, too, for a BP.

I also have my mother's old Papermate, in which I have also put a new refill. It writes well, but I don't carry it around, for mushy sentimental reasons. When I was overseas in the '70s and again in the late '80s, I received many letters written with that pen.

And I have a Cross BP that I never use.

Until you ink a pen, it is merely a pretty stick. --UK Mike

I carry a Mont Blanc ballpoint (what would that be, a 161?) when I leave the house, for any paperwork I might encounter; about the house, there's a stock of Pilot G-2s, but the actual non-gel ballpoint I use most is a Caran d'Ache Model 849 in black.

I use a variety of ballpoints and rollerballs when not using a fountain pen. Which one kind of depends on where I am, since I don't carry one with me (except in my bag to work). At home at my desk, I mostly use a Yard-O-Led Viceroy Victorian rollerball, occasionally a pair of Montblanc Classique ballpoint/rollerballs or maybe a Levenger Chesterton Silver Mist rollerball. At work I use either a Pelikan K800 or a Levenger Chesterton Espresso rollerball.

If I specifically need a ballpoint and not a rollerball, it's either the Montblanc or the Pelikan.

0.5mm Jetstream refill in a Retro 51 Tornado (Thomas Jefferson edition) generally. I also use Uni Signo DX gel pens in 0.28mm and 0.38mm. Otherwise I just use what people hand me: typically a decent fine-tipped ballpoint that makes me feel rather spoiled.

I received a lamy noto as a free gift recently and have to say it must be the worst pen i've ever used, when it comes to ballpoints I'll stick to my sheaffer no nonsense or the trusty parker jotter!

No one is born hating another person because of the colour of their skin their background or their religion. People must learn to hate and if they can learn to hate they can be taught to love for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it's opposite.

Very rare that I use one. I just grab anything. If I have to use something other than a FP, it's a roller ball.

I have a vintage Japanese Jumbo BP that came in a matching set with a FP. As the FP needs some work i have been using the BP for some things lately and i must say it is quite nice.

Non notisi signi.

I carry two in my work bag, usually just to loan out.

Parker 25 with space pen refill. Indestructible, plus if I am ever under water I can jot a note in my write in the rain notebook.

Old Sheaffer click pen, similar to a jotter, just to be different. Parker refill though.

Not even fountain pens, but loan either one to someone and they don't know what to think.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
