This is brilliant.

I am a watercolour artist and work with fountain pens using waterproof inks. De Atramentis is the best I've used in 35 years. I love the Brown and Black Document inks. I hope they will make a grey, but perhaps I'll just mix my own. Now I have to get all the other colours!

Anyway - there is loads on colour mixing on my website if you want to see it in watercolours :-) www.janeblundellart.com There are also lots of colour and ink-related posts on my Blog.

Cheers,

Jane

That will be fantastic. Thank you Peter.

You asked about colour mixing with CYM colours. Here is an example using watercolours that you may enjoy. The magenta and yellow are similar to the Document inks, the blue is warmer, but see how adding an orange to the range helps? You could make a great orange with the magenta and yellow. Here is the link to the full Blog post http://janeblundellart.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/colour-exploration-4-bright-non.html. There are many other colour mixing paintouts as well. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NHPAV1thVY4/U_aE9O5e-3I/AAAAAAAABbI/mjTElMOVRGI/s1600/4%2Bcolour%2Bupdate.jpg

  • 2 weeks later...

I have had a play with 4 of the Document inks - still have to wait for the others to arrive in Australia - and will add some of the mixes here. These are done with document Blue, Document Magenta, Document turquoise (which I have called Cyan 'C') and Document Brown. The mixing ratios are approximate of course. There is more detail on my bog here if you want to see them up close. http://janeblundellart.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/mixing-document-inks.html10634015_10204152001972748_5724620300206

They are really lovely to use and being able to mix our own waterproof fountain pen ink colours is quite marvellous :-)

Thank you :-).

Here are a few more. This time I was mixing the Document inks with Document Black. It takes a very tiny amount of black to change the colour even slightly to I haven't given recipes. It was really the tip of a brush of black with two drops of Magenta and eve that was too much, but you can see the sort of range you can get. I'll add more as I get hold of more of the Document inks. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yEg5DwcO19I/VG7FV_Cl8hI/AAAAAAAAB5o/UGFenrK-Gz0/s1600/39%2BP%2BDe%2BAtramentis%2BBk%2B%2B%2BB.jpghttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xJlLneY-YcE/VG7FYFrhT5I/AAAAAAAAB5w/d9lPGgkofk0/s1600/39%2BP%2BDe%2BAtramentis%2BBk%2B%2B%2BC.jpghttp://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v7OsGLff_GA/VG7FYj4MIZI/AAAAAAAAB54/Z7-6d1YWjb8/s1600/39%2BP%2BDe%2BAtramentis%2BBk%2B%2B%2BM%2CC%2CB%2B%26%2BBr.jpghttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RcRZ87Sz37I/VG7FZQqDicI/AAAAAAAAB6A/7jCbVdzLt4w/s1600/39%2BP%2BDe%2BAtramentis%2BBk%2B%2B%2BM.jpg

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
