New Waterman Converter Doens't Fit Laureat

Found a used Penman Sapphire cartridge, which fits and stays in place... I'll have to leave it soaking in water I guess as it was sitting there for... A decade or more. As for a syringe I wonder if can take a picture of the faces they're going to make at the drug store as I tell them that no, I'm not a junkie, just ink obsessed...

??? a Penman cartridge is a Parker cartridge. It's nipple/connector does not fit Waterman's correctly (although Parker and Waterman are now adopted children of the same parent company) The inard opening of the Parker connector is much larger than the Waterman. You can easily slide a Parker cartridge over the Waterman nip, but not the other way round.

It may sit, but you will probably get either leakages, excessive nibcreep, burping or other flow problems.

You're right! I was thinking of something else and confused the brands, but... it's working?? Of course I'll have to see if it stutters and if it burps ink as you say, or if it leaks after I cap it which was my original and long standing problem. No waterman converters at hand, only Lamy.

In other news... It was an unused Penman Sapphire cartridge, had to dislodge the opening with a small screwdriver, I though it was empty because it seemed to be free of ink, but it was only half empty, I guess even sealed there is some evaporation. I realized it was unused because I put it in a glass jar with water and the darned thing kept floating! If it doesn't work I happen to have a Parker Sonnet in need of a converter or at least a cartridge; hopefully the nib isn't too beat up but that's another story.

Franken WaterParker! It's actually a good fit, went in without major force but stays put... Who knows, this is one of my oldest pens, it's a miracle it has survived my lack of patience with this sort of thing. I am of course now blessed with mythical Penman Sapphire ink stains on my fingers, I'm going to get the look at work tomorrow.

I pushed a Parker cartridge into one of my Laureat sections. The fit was very tight, and it was hard to get it out. I recommend that you don't do this. It appears to me that the section might crack.

It wasn't that tight a fit on mine, as if they were made for each other, didn't force it... This morning, no leaks! No start problems, no apparent problems on the converter side... The old Penman Sapphire does come out a bit darker than I remember, but I guess that's normal for such an old cartridge. Still a smooth writer, I think I can feel the ink a bit thicker than others as it slides under the nib. I just have to use it more and see if by miracle this keeps working...

  • 2 years later...

Update! After a very long time I managed to buy another Laureat with the intention of transplanting the section, to see if that stopped this pen from gushing ink out every time I uncapped it... Got a cheap, decent used one from tmenyc. The pens looks the same, except mine is shinier. This is day 2: no ink burping! But I'll keep an eye on it. Tim's pen writes perfectly well, and now has the section from mine, so as a bonus I have another Lauréat... I looked inside the sections, they look identical...

Second update: it seems that swapping the feed, not the section, fixed the leaking problem. They look the same to me, but at this point, whatever works... Unfortunately that makes the other Laureat unusable, as it leaks with the old feed, can't win 'em all!

Very odd because as far as I know it's not the feed that seals with cartridge or converter. The feeds proboscis passed though another proboscis that is part of the moulded grip and its that part that seals with the ink tank.

  • 2 weeks later...

It started leaking again, but I tried more nib / feed / section / converter permutations, it seems to finally, finally have done the trick. Somehow the new style plastic mouth converter fits, and works. I also swapped inks, from Vert Empire to Fuyu Gaki. There's a little ink on the nib but there haven't been any huge drops left on it or the cap, I have been using it fr two days. Fingers crossed as this is its very last chance before it gets banished to a drawer with the Kaweco Sport from hell.

It's a shame for the donator pen, as that one does leak, I am under the impression the feed and section don't seal, I was thinking of trying to seal it with some silicone grease but don't have any.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
