Thank you Visvmitra for this visual review!

I am an Alt-Goldrun and Magenta fan. However I now want to try the other colors.

great work! thank you for doing this.

this pic makes me want to try sepia - some other images i've seen indicated it lacked the brown aspect i see here.

scabiosa and salix are my daily go-to inks for everything, and they never disappoint. I like my inks to be waterproof. and both of these shade wonderfully in virtually every pen i have.

i've started using alt bordeaux recently and like it for scrawled notes that will probably be scanned and discarded.

You really are amazing! All the time you are spending just to show us all these colours. And you are right. Rohrer & Klingner have very nice colours. They are bright and they are a joy to write with. And you what I like the bottle too. It has something familiar. They look and feel large and are very practical. Thank you for sharing this wonderfull comparison.

Catherine.

I had to look up Visvamitra to check if it means "thoroughness"... I'm digging that verdigris...

I think Smaragdgrun looks better in a finer nib. I'm currently using it in a Pilot 78G Fine (which is really close to an XXF) and it is bright and nicely complements my other greens: Green Marine, Avacado, and Alt-GoldGrun.

An incredibly useful post. Thank you very much.

My R&K experience to date is limited to Sepia and Verdigris both of which I found to be excellent inks.

Vis, if you have one sheet I can use for a fade test, that would be great.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I love Alt-goldgrun. It lives up to its name. Alt-bordeaux is a winner, too.

I also love the color of Konigsblau and Verdigris. But they both disappear with water. A couple drops and they disappear without a trace.

Thank you so much! This review is tempting me with getting some samples. I'm liking the Alt-Bordeaux, Scabosia and Sepia. I have a sample of the Salix and I was surprised that I didn't like it.

huge effort producing this - great work

surprised though at the Salix samples - it looks washed out. In my experience it always produces a deep rich colour with shading.

Great comparison, visvamitra! I always enjoy your reviews.

I have 8 R&K inks and I like all of them. It's so hard to choose a favourite... Should I get the whole line? Should I?

You should! You should! I have 3 R&K inks and they are all great behaving inks and very easy to clean. Very nice colors too!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
