Con 70 Converter For Sailor Pens...!

I've recently thought about getting a con 70 converter and trying to adapt it for sailor pens.

I even thought about getting someone print the converter at the connection end so that it is compatible with sailor, whilst marinating the con 70 mechanism at the top. This would solve many of the ink capacity issues with Sailor's own converters, especially with the more juicier nibs they offer.

 

Anyone thought about this?

This would, in all honesty, be awesome! I'd love to have a Sailor specialty nib paired with a higher ink capacity. I mean, sure, there's the Realo I guess, but the price premium is kinda iffy :/

I'm making enquiries about this at the moment. A small plastic connection end is all that would be needed, or alternatively the entire barrel of the convertor could be printed..

I don't think the CON-70 can fit all sailor pens as the converter is long and not all Sailor pens are long enough to contain the converter inside the barrel.

But I am interested in projects like this, the ink capacity of my 1911M is a bit too little for me.


P.S. I only have a 1911M and I don't have a CON-70. That is just my guess.

Actually, I don't own a Sailor that takes a converter, only Realos. The only Pilot I own is also an 823, that has a plunger mechanism.

 

I am considering a KOP though, and feel distraught at the thought of its abysmal native converter capacity. Thinking practically around it, I considered this as a potential solution..

Ahh well there would be difficulties since the thickness/diameter of both pilot cartridges and converters are thicker (noticeably so) than Sailor.

Pursuing a similar thought, I found that a CON-70 will only go about 2/3 of the way into a Profit (1911 Large) pen body. If you'd like to send me a KOP, I'll be happy to test clearance, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

 

My next line of inquiry will be to glue a sack to the top of an empty Sailor cartridge; a poor man's bulb filler.

I have though about this as well but never pursued it. I think you would need only an adapter like the platinum ones. However I have doubts about the size, might fit a 1911 and KOP but a Pro gear, probably not. The later is what I was interested in.

Taking on board everything said above. Having said that, these are relatively minor problems.

 

The benefits of 3dD printing are that one can print the barrel of the converter however one want, shorter, longer, tapered, just the adaptor such as platinum does. The mechanism needs to work, and beyond this constraint everything else can be adapted and modified easily.

Actually will the mechanism work in sailor pen? I am under the impression that it is a vacumatic type mechanism which means the rod/tube in the middle seals against something in the feed?

A vacuum mechanism should work fin, so long as evacuation area at the top of the barrel can be made..

However don't you need to ensure that the ink and air are only traveling through the tube :unsure: ?

Has anyone figured out how to get a larger converter into a sailor?

The actual nozzle fits well enough with just the tiniest of wiggle room. But even in a larger Pro Gear the con-70 is too fat to fit inside the barrel.

Once again, has anyone done this with an ebonite KOP, for example?

I see the Pilot Custom 912 described as having a 4.1" barrel length in nibs.com, the same length the ebonite KOP has.

Anyone?

as much as I really, really love the CON-70, I do have to say that even with a broad KOP, you're not going to kill an entire converter before the day is out.
