Opinion Please: New Omas Vintage 360 Smoky Grey Skipping

Hello my friends; it is ironic that the one pen I did not ask advice on and do research before purchasing is now skipping. I just purchased it last week and am finding it is skipping after a line or two, which seems to indicate in my unskilled opinion that it is the feed.

 

I've tried my wettest inks in it, flushed the nib several times and it starts, writes fine for a bit, then skips. Very frustrating indeed!

 

Given the choice, I can:

 

1: Send it back to the very reputable dealer I bought it last week from (Fook Hing) who assures me they can replace both nib and feed and get it quickly back to me

2: Send it to Omas in Italy or their Distributor in Long Island and endure up to eight weeks and a warranty charge

 

This is a fairly expensive pen and I am pretty surprised at this since it is so new and I have heard some great things about Omas pens. This is my first Omas and although it is a gorgeous design, I am very disappointed.

 

What would you do? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Sadly this happens a lot. It could also be a baby bottom issue with the nib.

 

If possible I'd probably go for getting an exchange from the dealer as sending it to Italy might be immensely time consuming.

Thanks so much for the reply; I hadn't considered BB. I believe you're right; they are a very reputable dealer and may just pay better attention to it than factory service.

I would pick a different pen (that's not an OMAS) if you get the option. Otherwise I would swap it for a new one. No point in sending it to Italy if you don't absolutely have to.

But it is such a beautifully designed pen! I doubt they will give me a new one and since I'm seeing these pens may require testing and tuning, getting a new one may be worse than having them replace nib, feed, etc. I just hope they replace it with the Omas products.

 

It's always interesting when such a gorgeous pen performs so poorly.

I would choose the quickest option. I have this pen and out of 3 italian pens i have ever bought this is the only one thats worked out of the box. Superb wet writer its well worth getting it fixed

Thanks very much for the good advice! FedEx has taken care of me in the past so I sent it International back to Fook Hing and already heard that they have already contacted Omas for replacement parts or pen. Even though I received a prompt reply from Kenro and even registered the return, I sent it to the dealer.

 

I'm really thinking that the skilled dealers are a better way to go as I recently got my Delta Momo back from the factory for a non-nib defect, only to have the pen beginning to leak around the thread section. Any advice on that one would also be appreciated; I guess I am not having the best luck with the Italians even though I am one
