The Maruzen Athena ink that was sold to me as "Orange" is almost certainly Sepia. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's a lovely ink. Much darker than Sailor's own (much-missed) Brown; quite close to Iroshizuku Yama Guri. It was the only bottle I managed to pick up in Maruzen last year, and remains in my Namiki Emperor to this day...

Too many pens; too little writing.

What is the story with Sailor Jentle Brown? I have an almost full bottle i bought at Fountain Pen Hospital last fall. Has this ink been discontinued or just production waiting to catch up with demand?

Does anyone know which pens the Sailor reps used to show off their inks in the photo above? I sampled all eight inks in the photos, and every one of the pens on display wrote smoothly and consistently. Pretty sure they were gold nibs.

Joyful Honda Nitta district got Watarase ink... the Progear pen is a beauty though...

Are the tall faceted bottles back? The execrable round ones are putting a serious dampener on my Sailor ink appreciation...

I can't be certain... maybe the squat bottles are produced in mass quantities as opposed to the tall ones... meaning the tall ones may need time to be made depends if Osamu is kind of busy I guess Edited by Algester

Thank you! Just the product family is enough for me. Not sure if the pens were Standard or Slim, but they all wrote very well.

Does anyone has the 2017 edition of Sailor's Japanese catalog? I remember in the past pages were posted from that showing the "bespoke" inks of various shops. I wonder if these shops are listed there as well?

Unfortunately Joyful Honda Rakuten site is under renovation.

I wonder if Sailor is using up whatever they have left of the vase bottles for smaller shops. Though it would be exciting if they were able to somehow obtain a new supply, though I do buy the ink for the ink. Guess only time will tell.

It's the closest thing to ink perfection. I love Athena Sepia; one of my top 5 favorite inks.

Are you sure it wasn't a bottle of Do-you (Midsummer Brown) at FPH? I thought Sailor Brown had been gone for a good number of years so I'd be surprised if even FPH had old NOS bottles.

I got the sakura pink color from this store and the bottle was not round bottle. It was the original diamond bottle. :)

I didn't realise that I had made such a mess on the label, but here are some poor photos of my Sailor Brown Ink which is, as you might expect, excellent. Sorry if the label's. it readable.

Yes. I think that's what this is.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
