The odd thing is, he had a bottle for sale a couple of weeks ago that went for ~ $36.

I got to meet the Sailor guys at the LA pen show. It was so cool. I also acquired ink. I'm not sure how that happened.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I will definitely make it happen soon as long as you won't be disappointed with my handwriting. :P

I am looking forward to see this year's MARUZEN fountain pen exhibition.

Your writing is fine! Much nicer than mine anyhow. :cP

Will you be at the fair this year? My friend may go this year with her hubby and my cousin may attend as well. Too bad the LE ink this year is pink. :c(

The auction highs for Atsu comes in waves and can be dependent on time of year. However, I will say that I noticed the following correlation: When ever a particular shop exclusive is spoken of at length here, or when there's some really nice images posted of writing samples, I tend to see that very ink, shortly after, for auction.

It doesn't always happen and it's more infrequent these days with shops placing in measures to circumvent him and other speculators, but it occured enough for me to have noticed the trend in the past. However, it could simply be the poster and Autsu purchased the inks around the same time.

Did they have anything special at the show? Was anyone there selling Kobe?

It was the guys from Sailor - here is the picture from Altec Green.

I will have to look at my schedule and see if I can squeeze my time and go to the fair this year.

I just tried this ink by using one of the new notebook I had, which I figured out the notebook was truly not fountain pen friendly.

Yeah, how does that happen?

Maruzen inks arrived today. The one advertised as "Blue-Black" does indeed look like a Blue-Black or a dark blue. The one advertised as "Orange," however, looks like a brown of some sort, even though the small color sticker on the box is orange. There is no English translation on the box or label to go by, and I cannot translate the small color sticker on the box. Will ink a pen with it later and send a photo of the color label. I'm afraid I may have gotten someone's hopes up for nothing (sorry, Claudia).

If you can post pics of the boxes, I or someone else can probably help with the translations.

Would it maybe be possible to map the stores? It would help so much those of us who visit, but don't speak Japanese, to track them down...

Too many pens; too little writing.

That blue violet looks nice. miujojo32 gave out the web site url, that's all the info you need. Their online shop doesn't list inks, but the catalog does.

The Maruzen Athena ink that was sold to me as "Orange" is almost certainly Sepia. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yep, セピア sounds like "sepiya" which is how they render "sepia in Japanese. セ "se" as in "Seth" ・ピ "pi" as in "pin" and ヤ "ya" as in "maYA".

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
