Hero Inks

I guess we should compare apples with apples, e.g. 203 with Parker Washable Blue or some other "common" blue ink. If Cyber6 sends me that sheet, I'm gonna scribble with stuff like Pilot Blue and Blue Black and stick it in the window for a while. If 202 is positively identified as an IG, then it will be Platinum Blue Black. Morinda for the red and Pilot Black for the black. Should be fair.

I'm sensing a HINT and a NUDGE.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Got my Hero inks today. thought I'd share a pic of the round bottles. Strange that all boxes are same size and as far as I can tell so are the bottles. the blues are marked 60ml but the black says 56ml.

Remember... be careful how you ask Mrs. Napalm for household chemicals.....

"Honey, these lovely ladies I met on line, told me to ask you for bleach so I can put it on my inky...."

yeah, this conversation could be misconstrued.

I had specifically wanted to acquire 203 a while back, but I could not find anywhere online that was selling the 20x line at a reasonable price so have pretty much given up on it. The 23x line is fairly easy to find. I got mine at Tmart which was the cheapest at the time, but it has gone up $0.69 since I bought mine, so I think eBay has better prices now.

234 is Carbon Black a particulate-based ink. My belief is that it is smaller to maintain the same price point. With my bottle, close examination shows that it is a little more squat than the other bottles. That may not be the case with all bottles they have released though.

So, is there a difference between the #203 and the 23x line ??

The bottles are different. Somewhere around here someone compiled a post of the different Hero Inks and their bottles with pictures, but I am not finding it. The information there was that the higher numbers are supposed to be higher end inks; though my impression was that the OP was not sure about there actually being a quality difference.

Hero 204 is always presented as a standard ink, while 234 is a particulate-based ink.

203 is presented as Washable Blue, while 233 is always marketed as just Blue. Whether they are infact different inks or colors, I do not know.

232 is thought by some to be an Iron Gall ink, I have never seen the same claim made about 202. Of course this could just be the result less availability.

Do you bottles have a strong, what I understand to be phenol, smell? That is true with my 23x inks.

I agree, I had a bottle a couple of years ago, thought it was a good strong black and much better than the Parker black I was using.

Yes it is, it seems unaffected. In the scan there might seem to be a slight change of hue, but by seeing it in person I put that on the paper yellowing. BTW the Fabriano (left sheet) has yellowed visibly more than the Rhodia (right sheet).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
