Good Quality, Not-Too-Expensive Wax Seals In The Uk/eu

Hi friends,

Apologies if I have missed anything from the big master thread with links to info about seals and sealing wax, but I couldn't find an answer to my specific question. Which is - is there anywhere in the UK (or EU in general) that sells fairly inexpensive, decent quality seals for using with sealing wax?

I've seen some very basic cheap stuff for a couple of pounds on offer on Amazon and also the really top-end seals that cost a fortune. I'd love to buy a couple of nicely-designed seals don't think I could justify more than maybe about £20 each.

NostalgicImpressions in the US have some gorgeous designs that I love, but I'd get hammered for customs charges if I tried to import any (have just sadly made that mistake with some waxes).

Thanks for any help! And apologies if I have missed a relevant thread.

UK-based pen fan. I love beautiful ink bottles, sealing wax, scented inks, and sending mail art. Also, thanks to a wonderful custom-ground nib by forum member Bardiir, I'm currently attempting calligraphy after years of not being able to do so due to having an odd pen-grip :D

Thanks Kate :) but guess what? I worked out that with the current strong £/$ exchange rate, and even after factoring in postage and customs charges, it was actually far better value to order from Nostalgic Impressions! Their designs are miles nicer and they have more variety too. So.....I....er,...I just ordered eight new seals :D I like the thought of my godchildren getting a variety of different seals on their envelopes, it will hopefully make the letters more fun.

(ETA I bought various designs including a square filigree 'A', a bee, a ship, a compass, a rose, a sun, a tree and a maple leaf.)

I do so love being a godmother; I just bought my 5-year-old godson a drumkit hahaha :D

Oh I'm glad you think they're good - the seals available here in the UK are generally either really flat and rubbish-looking, or beautiful but insanely expensive. The Nostalgic Impressions seals look like they have some good detail to them :) I might even end up wearing the ring!

I've been on the Nostalgic Impressions site and was wondering about their Scottish hand made wax. Have any of you tried it out?

Here is the link http://www.nostalgicimpressions.com/King_Size_Traditional_Sealing_Wax_with_Wick_hand_made_s/20.htm

Now that I know FPN members have good things to say about their seals, it sounds like this wax could be something special.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
