good/bad sign of pen obsession

This was a pretty silly thought, so I figured FPN if any place would appreciate it.

While looking for needle and thread, I happened to look at a fat eyeliner pencil with gold colored metal cap and end. It reminded me of the Fifth Avenue Stowaway pen I've been carrying around in my pants pocket.

Nah, that's ok. When you start using the Fifth Avenue pen as eyeliner, then you can worry cool.gif

You're going to laugh, but I had the same thought about a gold-coloured eyeliner cap that I found in a drawer. I was going to throw it out but then I thought it might make a good temporary pen cap, so I kept it rolleyes.gif

Good idea, but I hope you never have to use it.

Ouch, there's an instance in which it's definitely better to use a pencil and not a pen, even a real pen. I'd have to start wearing eyeliner first. I think boys can look good with a little. I'd just have to start going to rock concerts, which cost half as much as pens.

Spring and love arrived on a bird's sweet song. "How does that little box sound like birds and laughter?" I asked the gypsy violinist. He leaned back, pointing to his violin. "Look inside, you'll see the birdies sing to me" soft laughter in his voice. "I hear them, I can almost see them!", I shouted as his bow danced on the strings. "Ah yes" he said, "your heart is a violin." Shony Alex Braun

As it began for Shony, it began for me. My heart -- My violin

I know this is going to make me seem like a really bad person.

I was comparing one of my pistols to a FP a few days ago:

They ain't no good if they ain't loaded.

Can't be of use if you don't know where they are.

Must be kept clean for dependable service.

Some work better then others.

They can all be fine tuned.

What you put in them affects the quality of what comes out.

They both can cause great harm if miss-used.

They serve no purpose on their own.

They can be used for good and bad, but not on their own.

It is up to me how they are used.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
