Olive Green For A Pelikan M400 White Tortoise

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just purchased an M400 White Tortoise from a fellow FPN member, and I'm trying to find a soulmate for my newly acquired pen. I was thinking a mellow olive green ink that matches the striations of the barrel. Can you suggest me an ink, or perhaps an ink recipe that you've tried out, that achieves such a color?

I'll be posting some pictures/writing samples once I get my pen and ink.

Thanks!

How about looking into Noodler's Zhivago or Montblanc Seaweed Green Jonathan Swift? They are on the dark side of green!

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Great suggestions! Do you know of something a bit brighter and more "cheerful"?

Stipula musk green is the olive drab ink in my drawer. I love the way it performs. I really like the color as well although it leans to the brown.

I think Rohrer & Klingner's Alt Goldgrun is the absolute perfect pairing for this pen and I don't believe in pairing inks with pens but this combo is just too stellar not to pair. You definitely need to check it out.

I always thought my first fill f this pen when I get it would be with Diamine Kelly Green. You might wanna look at Diamine Meadow as well.

There is a four Pilot Irosizuku ink mix I will send you that I think might fit your desire to match with the M400 White Tortise. Let me know if you are interested. I don't currently have any mixed to show you, but I might be able to do it mid week.

I have that pen. I have the perfect ink. Stipula Moss Green. That is all. Perfect match to the barrel. Feeling frisky? Alt Gold-Green by R&K. That works, too.

I think I am going to have to jump on the bandwagon and agree that R+K Alt-Goldgrun would be an excellent match.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've looked through them, and Rohrer & Klingner's Alt Goldgrun is the olive shade that I've been envisioning; it's perfect!

I'd love to try that out!

I've used Diamine Salamander, Diamine Evergreen and Noodler's Sequoia in mine but it's not inked at the moment.

I hate Diamine Meadow, my feather king, was also some what on the border of murky.

I'd much rather write with a ball point than with this ink.

DA Sahara gray....a grayed green could go too. Or DA golf a good shading ink. It is not an ink to compare to other greens, but standing alone is nice, the shading makes up for the lack of vibrancy.

I like that picture of alt gold-green.

I just found this picture, and DA Sahara gray and R&K Gulgrun are incredibly similar. R&K's shows a tinge more shading, which I am a huge fan of. Oh, on that note, I'll be using a Binderized "full-flex" nib for this tortoise, so I'm definitely interested in well shading inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
