How Can Some People Be Sooo Stooopid?!

I'm wondering what the school systems teaches the youngsters these days?

How to use a calculator, a keyboard, a spellcheck, and Google. Also how to pass a state standardized test.

My district is returning to instruction in cursive handwriting this year.

In answer to the topic question, it is the same reason that Congress (the opposite of progress, as pro is to con) raises taxes; because they can. ;-0

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

At work when we have meetings we take quiz's for different safety topics and they just give

us the answers. Everyone passes even if the employees do not learn anything from the topic.

Just maintaining the paperwork I guess to keep the higher ups happy....

I recently asked such a question to a fellow Masshole on eBay and was told, "buy it and you can find the length of the pen yourself". Some things never change.

I wonder if any seller would respond appropriately if you asked for an updated picture next to a ruler. (assuming they placed both the pen and ruler in the correct orientation.)

I've had a response somewhat like that when asking for updated pictures because the original was like a 20px gaussian blur filter was applied.

I frequently have to ask if they could show us a pic of the nib.

You wouldn't believe the hostility I get back either.

I still remember some eBayers in the camera department.

One seller was offering a camera in original leather case. Needless to say he included pictures of the camera from all angles... with the camera still in the case.

Or one prospective buyer asking the seller offering a camera from the 1950s, if the original CD-ROM was included in the sale.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

My favorite is still the seller offering a copy of Edward G. Robinson's autobiography "All My Yesterdays" signed by Mr. Robinson. The Buy It Now price reflected the value of the author's signature on the autograph market. I pointed out to him that page 308 of the book mentions Mr. Robinson's death and that the copyright was owned by, "The estate of Edward G. Robinson," making it highly unlikely that the signature in a book published after Mr. Robinson's demise was authentic. Would he, I asked, discount the Buy It Now price to something more reasonable for an unsigned volume. His reply is not repeatable on a family friendly forum and he banned me from bidding on his items.

No pride in customer service. For me when I send an item I think how I would feel if I received the item

damaged. One thing I have learned is that bad press spreads faster than good press.

We should find a moron on fleabay and spam them with emails about the item on their site.

That is what you should do Bruce, find an item that is labeled wrong, fuzzy photos etc,etc post the topic on FPN

and we will all spam email them with questions on the item and fill up their inbox.

Can you salvage the jewel or the clip?

Believe it or not, it WAS Completely accidental that I left his name and address so clearly visible in that pic. ;) No. Really.

In my message to him, I "Strongly Urged" him to Not make me have to pay My money to return it to him. It won't do Him any good as it is now. We'll see. The jewel and clip are in nice shape. But he also flunked Ruler 101 (seems a freaking epidemic on Fleabay these days) when I asked for measurements and it's actually a Demi cap, Not the full size I Thought I was getting. (I actually know a FPNer who Could Have used the Demi cap Before it was ruined. I would have gladly tightened him up with this one were it undamamged.)

I don't really forsee me having any use for a 51 Demi clip and jewel but I Will harvest them if I get to keep the cap.

I don't doubt that for a second.

You want me to shoot it to you at Spa Estie West if I get to keep it?

Sounds like my experience with eBay sellers when asking about nib sizes when omitted. After all, who cares what size nib a pen has, right?

The best response I recall from a few years ago was, "it's still sharp."

In the seller's defense their main business may have been selling blunt objects like butter knives and safety scissors for kindergarteners. It's been a while.

Here is a pen set I saw in a antique shop in Princeton WIhttp://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f239/Jotteraddict62/100_4201_zpse895fdba.jpg

Not too bright. Do not ask me what the price was. I did not ask.

5 watt light bulbs are brighter than most people or they were trained just to read the box and not the pens.

It is not always the uninitiated or inexperienced sellers. I recently messaged two very experienced and well know here there and everywhere sellers of vintage pen parts. I am searching for a clip cap for a Waterman #7 which is fixed with two rivets and needed to know the hole centre distance on clips they were selling. So my question was, Please can you provide me with the distance between the centres of the holes in the clip. One seller replied asking me to clarify my question, the other did not reply. Clarify my question, how can it be much clearer. Anyway I clarified it as best I could but heard nothing back. So I am still searching.

Wow. That's surprising. Seem's to be a completely sensible question to me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
