Anyone tried it? What are your impressions? Dark, light, medium? Teal, true blue, purple?

It's not teal, it's definitely blue. But it's not a royal blue, it's lighter.

#2 vs. one of my favs ... #38

The purple on the bottom is Kobe #18. The green is Kobe SOL light green.

Thanks a lot! :notworthy1:

Nice shading. How light is it? Quink Blue? Waterman Blue? Pilot Blue? Darker?

I like the Sannomiya Panse

I don't really have any of those inks you mentioned, but to me it looks totally average in terms of lightness. Maybe like Waterman Florida Blue? It's not SUPER saturated, that's for sure, but it's a nice, solid, "reliablue" (as I call it).

I guess I'll have to order one and play with it. I like how it shades/sheens, like it's made out of two colors (a blue and a purple-blue). Since it's definitely not teal I'll probably like it :P

A bottle of Sailor Ultramarine is waiting for me in the mailbox, I guess that if it's not purple enough for my expectations, I'll get the Kobe Panse too.

Thanks a lot!

I got my paws on it, here's a comparison to Asa Gao on A5 sheets:

And this gorgeous bruise-like color in retaliation to Amber posting retinal searing pinks in a different thread:

I'm using it right now on some "office paper", specifically a B5 lined notebook distributed by www.basics.com . This paper has a rougher, absorbent side and a smoother, non-absorbent one (guess it's treated on one side only). On the smooth side of the paper, Hatoba is sheening like there's no tomorrow.

It didn't do it on Rhodia / Clairefontaine.... at least not to any easily noticeable extent.... I first saw it with this notebook. Later I saw it with some Japanese paper, even more than with the notebook paper. Quite interesting since that paper is absorbent. I would have expected the opposite....

The office one - I have no idea, it's some generic stuff my company buys, I guess it's available from Staples or some wholesale provider (Grand & Toy?). It's identified on the first page as "Basics 59125-01" model.

The Japanese paper that sheens a lot - it's the Life "Bank Paper" notebook (avail from wonderpens). Amber had a similar experience with this paper - Bungbox Tears of a Clown sheened like Herbin's "rouge hematite", but otherwise was not sheening on other papers.

Well, now I see it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

For future reference, I don't mention things that aren't super duper thrilling if you can see it for yourself in the picture. On Rhodia paper there is some sheen but not a ton, so I left it up to people to use their eyes on the pictures they themselves requested to look at! :P

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
