I was at Paradise Pens today picking up a Faber-Castell Ambition, and I ran into a gentleman that I invited to our gathering. Looks like he's going to be there!

If you guys know anyone local, please do invite them :)

Thanks!

Alas! I will be out on the Llano Estacado all this weekend. I would like to get in on this one day soon, but it will have to go to the back burner for now. Best of luck to all of you.

Update on the first meeting from the Facebook group:

The first meeting went really well!

Unfortunately, I managed to crush my iphone about an hour before it started, so I don't have any photos.

We had a turnout of 6 people, and it was a great time.

Lots of pens, ink samples, and some interesting papers as well.

Thanks to everyone why came. I'm really looking forward to the next one!

Awesome, it'll be great to have you there. I'll make sure to keep everyone updated with dates, etc.

I we're skipping september because of the Dallas pen show, but will try for October.

I know it's been a couple months and the holiday season is busy for everyone, but I'm eagerly hoping that another one of these can be done, as I would love to attend.

Hey Korwen,

I'll see what I can do. I apologize to everyone, but things have become incredibly busy for me in the last few months. I wasn't even able to make it to the Dallas show.

There's a chance some time will open up in my schedule in the next month or two, but I'm not sure.

Is anyone else able to take over hosting this meeting?

Thanks,

Jordan

Hello everyone. I moved to the Austin area about 4 years ago (from the Dallas area) and have been looking for meetups and clubs down here. I've been collecting vintage Sheaffer and Parker pens from the 1900's to 1970's for about 10 years now and have a couple dozen nice pens. I'm also looking for a local repair person/store that will work on vintage pens.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hey yall! I am about a year behind on replying to this thread. However, I wasn't sure if there was an up to date thread or not. Are yall still having meetups within this group. If so I would like some more information to join yall. Just let me know!

I, too, would like to know if interest (and meetings) has/have continued. Am I missing something between December last and now? I am not presently working Way Out West, so I might be able to attend a weekend meeting (or some weekday evenings under certain circumstances).

@abstract49 and @aacampbe

I've been collecting for about 10 years now. I'm from SW of town, but could meet just about anywhere. If you have a suggested place to meet, please suggest. I know a person in Round Rock that could potentially host for us. He works at a pen store in town.

Hey guys,

Sorry I dropped the ball on this. I had a little one right around the time of the last meet up, and my available free time plummeted :)

Because of that, I've decided to sell most of my rather sizable FP collection. In fact, I'm only holding on to 4 of my favorites.

Here's just a brief idea of what I'm looking to sell (There's much more):

Anyone local interested? I'm hoping to sell the whole collection with packaging, ink, extra nibs and all that for a big "convenience" discount.

Thanks!

Are you hoping to only sell as a lot or are you willing to sell individual pieces? Just curious

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
