Hard Rubber 51 Barrels

MainStreetPens

Recommended Posts

I picked these up in a batch of parts a couple of years ago. I think that they were made by Bexley. It's unlikely that I'd assemble a pen and use them, but someone may find them to be interesting. Details on Cheapskate Alley at Main Street Pens. Don't forget to take a gander at our main pen sales page while there.....

I have wanted one of these for some time, since I saw a picture of one somewhere. Now it's on its way. Imagine Snoopy dancing around in a circle.

I'm guessing a black hood?

Hunter green might look pretty good.

Me? I think I'd be on the horn to Shawn Newton and beg and pled for him to turn me down a matching Ebonite hood for it. There were such a things, it Could be done. It's time he picked up his Masters Degree in Lathe. ;) [EDIT] Bummer, I asked him for you. No go. :(

I've paid winching coin for a Plummer hood before, I'd do it again for something like this.

Plum and green hard rubber. Well, I had thought of the green hard rubber and a purple Kullock hood, or maybe cerise. Deep gray, but black will be best.

Howard made these several years ago. Ten maybe? Not sure. Some of them had matching hoods, but I never had any. I had one with a black hood, but really prefer solid colors on a 51. Trying to find a solvent that will work to repair a crack on an orange plastic Kullock hood. Nothing I have tried yet will work. Knowing a couple of chemistry professors helps though. B) We may find it yet.

I got my barrel in the mail today. Matched it with a black section from a desk pen. Looks great. Aluminum-looking filler sheath, black knob on the end, black lettering. Inked it up. The pen writes a broad line. I hadn't suspected that old desk pen from 48 was a broad. Pics later. I always wanted one of these.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
