Problems With Mb Toffee Brown Ink

DylanKeefe

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, quick question! I recently purchased a bottle of Mont Blanc Toffee Brown ink, and the color is amazing. However...the ink starts out nice and brown, and dries an almost greenish, moldy color. I've look around and I haven't seen anyone with the same problems as I have had. There is also some green residue inside the cap and around the glass rim, which has me thinking, again, about mold. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Thanks!!

I will occasionally get some green around the top but I've never had anything grow inside the ink itself or have it dry to anything other than brown.

Could it be sheen?

I'm almost certain it isn't sheen, and if it is, it's the worst looking sheen I've ever seen. 0.0

The green around the top of the bottle and cap is a known artifact and nothing to worry about. I haven't seen any green in my written samples, can you post photos?

One of my favourite inks! I haven't noticed any green stains on the lid or cap, and certainly not on the page.

This is my all time favorite ink--I've never seen any green. But then I've gone through half of my current bottle in a month. How old is the ink?

I've had the green experience . I've also seen the green show up on crusts and the like. I find the biggest way to show the green is on glossy paper (like photo or calendar paper).

I've also noticed it happens on glossier paper as well. I'll upload some pictures when I get home this evening. Also, sorry for the empty quote. Using this site on mobile is a bit difficult. :P

Shoot. See what I mean?? Anyway, I've noticed it happens on glossy paper, as well as with extra fine dry nibs.

I'd never seen the green before, but I did find a little dried on my cap. I think there must be a green dye in it. Here's a shot that shows different things, including a little green in the lighter areas. The paper is Tomoe River.

Interesting,

My snorkel has a great soft wet nib and has been sitting empty waiting to be filled with Toffee Brown on Friday

I will fill it up and use a sheet of Tomoe river to see if I can replicate it.

Gives me a good chance to test my new Lamy 2000 on that paper as well. :)

Its hard to see in this light, but there is a green tint to this ink, especially on glossy paper. Sorry it took me so long to find a photo!!

I believe brown can be made by mixing green and red, so a brown ink may indeed contain green dyes.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
