Reality check.

Maybe this 55ml hexagon bottle will fit the bill. I found it online for .49 USD if you buy more than 120 bottles.

I don't love the cap, but to my mind, this one is a contender.

I think I have at home what you are looking for. At least two possible choices that I am currently using for my Toucan ink and my Powder inks dilutions.

When I get home tonight I'll take pics.

What about octagonal then?

The cap is the same as the big Diamine.

I'd definitely go taller and thinner, more like Aurora, than short and fat, like Herbin. Anyone remember the original Private Reserve bottles? Shorter and wider. I still have a few with the original labels that are just thin computer labels printed out and applied. I like their current bottle better.

A good seal on the bottle is critical. Glass stoppers are nice and romantical, but don't hold the inky tides from washing out should it tip.

Ding Ding Ding! Yes, these are great! In addition to being proven designs you also know the caps will work. I would question some of the other bottles being bandied about due to their caps. How do you know that caps not designed to hold liquids over periods of years with minimal evaporation will work?

I vote for cork. Very tight cork. Especially if the ink is of the "indelebile" type. Then we could share funny pictures on how the uncorking went. :lticaptd:

No cork --- I read up un STIB and cork.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I believe you can get them in either 40ml or 47ml. It seems like a good contender.

I do like the clean lines of the Diamine bottle.. better yet, they come in 80ml.

I'd really like something like the apothecary jars.

But bear jars are cute until we get sued by some BEE.

+1 on no cork. Ditto for rubber stoppers. I want to be able to open close the bottle back up without making a total mess.

I want something with a wide enough mouth to get pens into (I don't have any big honking pens like MB149s, but I know other people do). I want something that's not going to tip over easily or is top-heavy when I'm trying to fill a pen. I want a screw on lid (preferably one like some I was looking at the other day that had phenolic caps) -- something that is airtight so ink doesn't evaporate or . And something that hasn't yet been mentioned: I would want it to *not* be clear glass (I've been pricing amber and cobalt blue bottles and jars to decant the vintage Quink Violet and Skrip Peacock Blue into; while cobalt glass is quite pricy, amber glass isn't so expensive, especially when buying bottles by the case). Yeah, you couldn't see the precise color the way you can with clear glass -- but it would maybe give the ink some UV resistance.

I'm more interested in functional over pretty. I like the 3 oz Noodler's bottles, but not the 4-1/2 oz ones (I think those larger ones are called "Boston" bottles). I'm not sure I agree that taller is better than wider, though -- when I get towards the bottom of a bottle I want to be able to still get the pen all the way down in to fill easily, especially for a lever pen; sample bottles are horrible if you have a small lever pen like my Morrison ringtop when the vials get fairly empty, BTW -- I couldn't get the nib far enough down into the ink and still be able to work the lever; so I now have half a sample left of Diamine Emerald just sort of sitting on my shelf mocking me and the pen.... :( And it was such a NICE combination....

How hard/expensive would it be to have one of the fill inserts like Pen & Ink brand has? I think my bottle of Sailor Sky High has something similar (turn the bottle over to fill the insert, then open the bottle and fill the pen. from that top part. Solves the problem of getting the pen all the way down (and both bottles have wide enough mouths).

I still think something from one of the established ink bottle manufactures or some kind of screw-top chemical bottle would be best. Those have a proven record of containing ink without evaporation.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
