Inky T O D - The Perfect Ink Bottle For An Exclusive Ink.

Recommended Posts

Recently, several of the mods have been discussing a potential new FPN exclusive ink (that's another thread). One request has been that the FPN bottle be unique. Dcroe05 and I spent some time trying to find a perfect ink bottle.

So, if you could call it, what would the FPN exclusive ink bottle look like? If you have pictures or a link, that would be most helpful. Remember, cost is a factor so those stunning Lalique perfume bottles are not within the budget - though maybe at the right price we could change our minds.

Tell me us thoughts.

I'm a hopeless romantic. I would love the return of the Parker Penman bottles... :)

That helps. Alas, we need to look at the opening. A lot of the bottles won't fit a coffee stirrer let alone a pen.

Something functional and cool like the Akkerman. I prefer ink as a priority over bottle.

The ink will be awesome. The bottles are really hard to find.

I feel no sympathy for the guys with cucumber size, heavily adorned pens.... :)

Would it be possible to get bottles from the Italian company Omas, Diamine, Aurora, and Montblanc get their bottles from? If so, something like the Aurora bottles would look classy and be functional.

Well, it would be a shame if I couldn't fit my M1000 :P

As for bottles, maybe we could look at incorporating the initials into the bottle design? Like, there could be three different bottles and each would be in the form of a letter in FPN. Might be a bit hard to come up with a good design that would allow for a convenient way to fill them though.

Why not use Twsbi inkwells.

With a bulk order you could get it with a FPN top.

Each year match the color band to @ the ink shade.

I would like to see a functional minimal bottle, like Penman or Iroshizuku bottles. The Akkerman bottle looks kind of extravagant, IMHO.

But, as previously said, I value the ink over the bottle.

I really like that idea, the TWSBI inkwells are really nice...

What a strange world we live in, where people communicate by text more than ever before, yet the art of proper handwriting is seen as a thing from the past.

For consistency with the FPN logo, I would seek something art deco and aeronautical.
E.g. this one. Or ask the manufacturer if they can add e.g. some decorative grooves. Just add 3 grooves on a square bottles and you already have a good art deco contender. :)

If it is only for the sake of having a container, I'd go for a plastic cheap and simple bottle that can be sent overseas.

PS: this one (taken from pendemonium) is pretty sweet:

Keep the suggestions coming. But here's a few things to keep in mind.

  • Using existing aftermarket bottles (like TWSBI inkwells) will drastically raise the price of the ink, and will reduce the number of people who want it, because not everyone needs another inkwell.
  • It's going to be unlikely that we would get a custom bottle, or do things like etching the bottle. For small runs this kind of stuff is crazy expensive.

Reality check.

Maybe this 55ml hexagon bottle will fit the bill. I found it online for .49 USD if you buy more than 120 bottles.

Amber,

I just searched, on alibaba, for "cosmetics jars" instead of "glass bottles" and got a huge list of possible candidates--most with very wide mouths.

Based on some of the pictures, it wouldn't surprise me if this is how Private Reserve found their bottles.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
