Famous Users Of The Aurora 88?

Hi guys -

I'm trying to get an article written about the Aurora 88, and the client specifically wants a "famous person" who has used the pen mentioned. Any ideas about where I could find such info or any suggestions?

thanks!

I was told that the author Oscuro Scrittore wrote the first draft of his postwar novel "Albe di luce oltre anzio" using one of the first Aurora "88"s and ink made by pouring Lacrima Christi through liberated stamp pads and that the review of the first edition which unfortunately consisted of only two copies, one left while spending the night in the Catacombs (the only place at the time accepting Christians without a prior reservation) and the second under the seat of a Fiat 600 Tipolino, the review by Montefiasco was said to be "Est! Est!! Est!!!".

This one will be extremely tough, I'd think. Well post war, likely Italian, and still using fountain pens. Maybe you'll get lucky and Lucky Luciano used it to pen orders to Frank Costello after he got deported from the US? About all I can think of. What are ya left with besides some 50's and 60's actresses who in all likelihood used ballpoints? No offense to Italy, but they haven't exactly been a famous person mill since WWI ended.

Actually, Italy has been quite a considerable famous-person mill since World War I. At least for people interested in such not-very-obscure subjects as movies, automobiles, rich people and the way rich people spend money, the Communist Party in Europe, the Roman Catholic Church, the design of consumer products, and rapid economic growth. Granted, Benito Mussolini didn't live long enough to write with an 88, but Aurora sold an awful lot of 88s to somebody or other.

I think your best shot would be mailing the Aurora PR department and asking them. They often hold a list of important persons who were presented with a certain pen.

I think it will be difficult to point out famous users of any brand/model of pen.

We know mr Churchill favoured an Onoto pen.... and many American presidents seem to go for Cross pens....

I could not name more..

Sure, no offense.

But I really think your comment is based only on gangsters, as this is the kind of celebrity you mentioned.

On that view I agree with you.

But if famous mean something else than gangster, I do not agree with you !

Hi,

That's a really good question as the Aurora 88 was a popular pen that was often given out at graduation to both men and women in Italy. Some of them ended up in drawers, never used.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
