I am in Frankfort, so I was already prepared to have to drive to Louisville or Lexington for a club.

I've done some digging on the FPN forum in the past and there was talk a few years ago, but I haven't seen anything recently. The people at the FP store in Lexington weren't aware of any sort of club in Louisville or Lexington.

I would be interested though.

I am staying in Louisville (Jeffersontown) for about a month. Does anyone from the area have suggestions about stores I should visit anywhere in the metro area? Thanks!

Edgar's at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary is all I'm aware of, but I have no personal experience. I have heard that they won't take a return on an inked pen even if there's a problem.

There's probably a Montblanc dealer somewhere.

If you get to Lexington there is Leather, Inc. and a jewelry store that is a Montblanc dealer. There's another jewelry store on Old Vine St. that sells Visconti and perhaps a couple of other brands.

If you can drive to Cincinnati there is Appointments downtown.

Unfortunately Kentucky isn't a great place to shop for fountain pens.

Von Maur used to sell Montblac but not anymore.

I live near louisville, nice to know there are at least a few fountain pen users in the area.

But I would not be interested in any club/meeting.

I have been to Edgar's, it has been at least 3 years but at the time they had a nice collection of What I would call "entry level" pens. Lamys for sure, I believe a few Sailors and waterman I think.

Leather Inc has a huge selection of entry to mid level pens. I have visited the store many times, recommend taking the trip to Lexington.

The Lexington Jewelry shop, right at Rupp Arena, they had Montblanc but when I bought mine there they had very few, if any Fountain pens. Mostly Ballpoint and rollerball.

Have been wanting to go to Cincy to visit Appointments, but have yet to make it.

For those in the Louisville area looking for B&Ms who also sell on line I can recommend shopping at the following.....

Vanness pen shop located in Little Rock Arkansas and online at https://vanness1938.com.

Or at Fountain Pen Hospital in New York City or online at http://www.fountainpenhospital.com.

I have bought multiple pens at boths shops and got wonderful treatment and competitive pricing.

Hi there!

I live in Lexington (GO CATS!). I'm totally new to the world of fountain pens and FPN-- so much information! So many beautiful supplies to lust after (and try so very very hard not to purchase en masse)!

It's nice to hear from a fellow Kentuckian; I'm willing to let our mutual interest in pens override the animus we may feel toward each other if you have the misfortune of being a Louisville basketball fan. I kid!!! :-)

Jenny

P.S.but seriously, are you a Louisville fan? 😁

If you are just looking for places to visit in general.....

Go down a walk around the area called "the Higlands", it is on bardstown road and is full of independant stores all very eclectic.

Joe ley antiques on east market street is a must see, along with the other interesting shop close by.

"The great escape" is a great comic book store just south of "the Higlands"

"Carmichael's bookstore" & "better day records" are two stores worth stopping by.

Best coffee in louisville I'd Heine Brothers.

Restaurants that you must try, "Jack Frys" and "Lily's" both in the highlands.

More suggestions coming.....

Thanks, Zaphod_Beeblebrox. I've already tried Jack Fry's--delicious! I'll add your other suggestions to the long list I'm keeping of places to visit while I am here.

Roddyjen: Since I am just a temporary Kentuckian, I have no school/athletic allegiances. But if I cheer for them all, that means more team colors, which means more ink colors, too!

I live right outside of Louisville, wish there was a nice store here that sold FPs and writing supplies. Will have to make a trip to Cincinnati at some point to visit Appointments.

I'm in Owensboro, and would be interested in a club or meetup. I've also got three other FP lovers in the house I could bring along for the fun.

On weekends (or during the summer), it's quite plentiful, and there is a good bit of nearby (< one block) street parking as well.

It is a bit tight on weekdays when classes are in session, naturally, but I'm doubting we'd want to schedule something on a weekday?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
