Think of Co-Dependent Ink Enablers.

Hi, I'm Kettle. I'd like to introduce you to my buddies. My fellow FPNers have been kind enough to indulge me in this latest Crazy-Review by Two. I'll let you see the damage.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

How do you find the Noodler's 54th when it comes to cleaning? I found North African Violet stained my Diamond 580. Hoping that 54th doesn't have the same problem. Have you tested it on cheaper paper? feathering and bleedthrough would be my next worries.

After NAV, use a bright red ink. It will come out.

I haven't cleaned out 54th yet, but it's a blue black and shouldn't be too hard.

It won't stain the barrel of the 580, but it WILL coat the underside of the nib in a thin powdery like film. I almost would compare it to dry erase marker, buff it off and it turns to "dust" water won't touch it though.

Just an FYI

54th comes out with a 10% ammonia solution and doesn't stain as far as I've seen. Also, it is great when it comes to feathering on cheaper paper (very little to none) but it does show through thin papers.

Hmmm, yea I have to admit, I'm wary of putting Noodler's into a nicer pen because I'm worried about long term issues with cleaning and clogging because of the bulletproof components. But this ink just has such a wonderful saturated blue-black (makes me think of Iroshizuku's Tsuki-Yo)... it's just very tempting. BBH just was too much of a powdery washed out colour for what I had expected/wanted.

If you want a perfectly performing Blue-Black, try Noodler's Dromgoole's Blue Steel.

Yea, I saw that it was a very nice colour too... how's the water resistance on the blue steel?

Some color will wash away, but the ink is still legible. I would call it nicely water resistant.

Here you can see the Luxury Blue and Dromoogle's Blue Steel are still there.

Matthew Matteson has a recent review on Noodler's Blue Steel (check out www.inkdependence.com) apparently it's fairly water resistant, but does lift off the paper a little. I had 54th Massachussetts in my TWSBI Mini for aeons (ok, let's try a few months), and have tried it in a few other pens and it washed out fine. . It has a bit of a chemical smell to it, which I find intriguing rather than a worry, but it's a fantastically well-behaved ink - barely moves a micrometre when wet. There ARE some Noodler's inks I'd hesitate to put in a more expensive pen - for me, this isn't one of them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
