Has Parker Discontinued Some Of There Ink Cartridges?

The Blue Knight

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of buying my Mum something like a Frontier and some green cartridges as a little gift to try and covert her back to the fountain pens. My idea was to buy the pen and a large pack of ink cartridges e.g. 15. As well as give her a bottle of Waterman's Green for when the cartridges had been used up that I have lying around. I've looked around and no where seems to stock green cartridges any more. So I'm wondering if they have been discontinued?

It would be quite annoying as I think cartridges are a useful tool to convert bp users to fountain pens removing the initial "extra steps" involoved in fountain pens. Also the Frontier is a pen I hold in high regard and use my most days so I think it would be perfect to give to my mum

Parker still makes green Quink cartridges, but they do seem hard to find now. I saw them at Fountain Pen Hospital last month, but they don't seem to have them on their website. I'm sure they would ship to the UK from their shop in NYC.

Perhaps Amazon or eBay will have some.

This is rather annoying. I find it ironic that NR are happy to have a large range of waterman cartridges but are unwilling to have a few parker colours available.

Parker has indeed discontinued green (long) cartridges. I use the word "discontinued" advisedly since they may be available in markets other than the UK. This could be a cue for a bijou-rantette about NR's marketing strategies but life's too short and I simply CBA any more...

Can't remember when I saw any other than black and blue Quink cartridges.

It's easy enough to use a Parker cartridge converter with bottled ink, which would be a good step forward anyway, as it opens up the choices of colours from various ink makers.

I only have one ink that could be classed as green, that is Waterman's blue-black (maybe renamed now as 'Mysterious blue'), which writes blue but turns blue/green overnight.

They do show on their website 'Harmonius green' which I have not tried.

Also use a 'Frontier' here, bought in 2008 for £8 new price, (should have bought 2), a really good value and reliable pen.

Not sure if you've seen, but K Direct stock them on Amazon. Only thing is they're quite expensive!

According to Penhome in the UK, usually reliable, Quink Green cartridges have been discontinued by Parker:

Hmmm… perhaps the packs that FPH had were old stock, which is why they didn't stock it on their website. They also had Quink red cartridges, which I assume has also been discontinued.

I have only ever seen blue and black ink cartridges for sale. May I suggest purchasing a converter with the Frontier? I prefer refilling cartridges using a syringe but a converter may be less intimidating for her. I use a Frontier Flighter on a daily basis and it is a lovely reliable writer.

If you have an empty cartridge, some green ink and a syringe - there is no such thing as discontinued

My problem is that I'm rather fond of Parker pens -- probably a function of age since I started using fountain pens back when the Parker 51 was the standard for quality pens. But -- I also prefer turquoise ink, which has meant using a converter and bottled ink, but for some reason, when I post with a Parker pen, traces of ink appear on the barrel. I don't have this problem with any other brand. I suspect that I've been less than careful wiping the pen after filling and wanted to try the cartridges to see if I still had the ink residue problem.

So, I wonder if anybody else has had the same problem with ink residue with a converter but not with a cartridge. Of course I could use my Parker 61, which has no problem refilling, but because those pens have a propensity for drying out if they aren't used constantly, I would never get a chance to use any other pens.

I believe that Levenger cartridges work as Parker cart replacements. One end is an international fit and the other is Parker. Plenty of colors available.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
