My Collection After About 3 And A Half Years

Well it's been about 3 and a half years ago since I bought my first fountain pen, a charcoal Safari, and since the addiction begun.
I've been browsing the Hungarian online used market daily, and I can thank most of my purchases to that.
Never even though about owning a big Pelikan, not to speak about Montblancs. Honestly I didn't really see why they were so popular and they are loved by many, but owning them changed my thinking!

I'm feeling lucky for finding great deals and bargains on most of my pens, and I'm really grateful for it! (I hope it'll last...)

Of course I've parted with a few...actually 4...I kind of regret selling my sailor 1911 though.

My latest pen (912) arrived this week and I promised myself to go on a little diet. I don't know how long I can hold off though....

I need to find a better storage for them! Maybe this could be an excuse for my next purchase...
I have a separate case for some, but most of them are sitting in this not too fancy little box.

wonderful collection!

Those are some great pens. I find it funny though that in a collection or pelikans and montblancs there are still the old standbys of a lamy safari and noodlers.

Yes! They can take the torture and you can throw them in your bag without too much to worry about. Well maybe not the Safari, because it has a snap cap, but you know what I mean...

And you don't have to be that fancy all the time anyways

For me the Safari is a little special, because it was my first pen - as for many others-, but it is really a nice and reliable pen. :)

Thank you Paloma! It makes me very happy that you like my photos!
The tortoise is really worth looking for! They are beautiful!

OMG, so beautiful and how many HUF's in a wooden box !

Thanks Alex! I'm always afraid to think about the total value...its much more relaxing to think about how much I've payed for them! I've been really lucky with most of them. They'd deserve something better than this little box though...at least a better tray, but I'm looking at the Franklin-Christoph Lucky 13 Penvelope to keep them safe here at home.
The VAT would make it more expensive than what I'd like though...

Wow,very nice.... so you like Montblac more than any other brand !

Thank you!
Honestly, those were what came up on the local auction sites more and I could not resist...this is the real reason...
The two more modern ones both needed some nib work though....
I love them all!

Nice collection. That Turcsány is a gorgeous pen. Can you tell us something more about this brand?

Enjoy them all!

Beautiful collection! Do you use these pens on a regular basis? Any particular direction you want to go with your collection? For instance, all nib sizes of the MB 146. Or various (colour) versions and options of one particular pen.

Thank you!

I always try not to keep too many pens inked up, but now 10 of them are inked. Normally I have 2 or 3 in my daily carry.

The M800, the Turcsány and the 644G get little use these days. The 600G is gets into rotation every now and then, but not too often.

Those are a bit more treasured than the others...

I haven't really thought about a particular direction to be honest. I thought about going the Tortoise way and get as many variants as I can, but you know...there are too many interesting pens to look for. There are some pens what I'm really looking for, and are high on my list, but most of the time when I planned to get a particular pen, there was always something else what got my attention and made me go in a completely different way.

So, as my funds are pretty limited, I'll stick with keeping an eye open for great deals and bargains, just as I did so far, and try to live with the opportunities.

I like the fact that you kept also the less expensive ones, it's only nice to remember that pleasant felling when you got from first trying on a new pen, regardless of the brand. Congrats!

Yes, I see what you mean! :)
The Safari is just special and by no means a bad pen either!
I use it even more with the 1.5 nib

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
