Sunday's Fleabay Picks * For You! * For May 11, 2014

**Disclaimer; I am not a pen expert. I know just enough to make me dangerous. These listings are pens *I* find interesting or a potential deal I think May happen. I DO look Closely at the Same pics and descriptions You can see Before I include them on the list. I would not knowingly put a pen on the list with serious damage without noting it or it being noted by the seller. Generally, not at all, knowingly. If you think I missed some damage to a pen, please feel free to post it here. As quickly as I can I'll go back, look it over again and make any necessary edits to the list.

So of course, the same usual Fleabay Caveat Emptor applies here. At the very least you're looking at listings that 4 more eyes from someone who isn't a complete pen idiot has looked pretty closely at first.

For a good portion of the list, you may very well have enough time to dash a quick question or two off to a seller and maybe get an answer back prior to it closing if need be. It wouldn't hurt to try.**

Enjoy! and Good Luck. Bruce in Ocala, Fl

I can't argue with it being a Waterman's Sunday.

Bruce - a bit of background re the Croxley pen you've listed here. The manufacturer, Dickinson, were part of the Dickinson Robinson Group and operated the very big Apsley paper mills in Croxley Green near Watford, north of London. I was taken on a tour of the factory in about 1986 when I was a stationery buyer. Their products included Sellotape and Basildon Bond. The company was taken over in the late 80s as part of a leveraged buy-out and its assets were stripped, the paper mills were sold, then closed down. Names such as Basildon Bond were sold off and are still made today. At one point DRG owned several companies including the one who made Stephens inks and pen products. The Croxley may well be from that merged company.

The Croxley of this period were almost certainly made by Curzon Summit / Lang at the Liverpool factory. I do not yet have definitive proof, but I believe Dickinson eventually took over the factory in the early -mid 1950's.

Few variations in design, but always a quality pen.

Very interesting - thank you. Sad that the Dickinson heritage is now all but gone.

Yeah it was at over $400 last night. This one was more pure spectator value and I thought some might night have seen an Uber Level Imperial before.

Woohoo I got #3.

Chased BHR Sr Duofold with box http://www.ebay.com/...L-/111341954716

Thanks for putting this list together. I am not sure if I overpaid for this, but I recently purchased a similar pen with a M Stub at a significantly higher price. However that pen came with a restorer's guarantee.

I *love* Duofold sized pens, but Duofolds, and many vintage Parkers in general, are an expensive hobby.

I am not totally up on all the variations of the Duofold but at 135 mm = 5.35", that should make that a Sr., the more desired size.

I know the chased is less common. I would have thought closer to $200 for that pen. I think for about $112 shipped, you did very well.

That's what I ended up paying for the first one I got, but it was a slightly worse color and worse chasing. However the seller was Rob Morrison and the pen was (is) perfectly restored. This one is clearly a Duofold Sr. size too, no doubt about it. The cap from my "official" Sr. fits perfectly on these pens.

I love how HUGE the nibs on these pens are!

Late to the party. That Snorkel listed in #9 looks interesting. I would like to try one after seeing many of you mention this pen.

#33 - I got it!! Paid more than I thought I would, but still a lot less than that cleaned up one is going/will go for:

Nice.

And congrats Gump on your first Vacumatic! I think that's a bargain price, others can perhaps qualify that. I picked up a green Vac tonight but not as cheaply as yours (a good price nonetheless).

It was quite fun watching the tbickiii auctions. A pristine Dove gray Parker 51 went for $495. Very exciting to watch (I wasn't bidding on it.)

$495?!?! Whoa. I'm very happy with mine ( GF cap, DJ, grey barrel, shiny and working) and I only paid $115.

I now have a fistful of pens for the Hospital...

Mardi either forward the listing to Ernst Bitterman here, or maybe post it to the Sheaffer forum to confirm it's an Oversize. The lever fill was to me a plus for the inexpensive or easier to do restore.

I'm a little weak on my Sheaffers but that looks stubby to me like the OSs do.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
