The Show And Tell Wars

Seagull has started thinking now. What has she done? Is there a war going on here? She has her children building brick walls around the nest.

This is not made by fountain pen, but the S-pen on my Samsung galaxy note. I couldn't draw Seagull with a Eagle pen;wouldn't have been nice!

Ptero: I found the Eagle pen on Ebay. It came all the way from Australia.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Hi Line,

great, I didn´t expected that so good drawings are possible with your tablet. :)
Let´s see if the brick walls arround the nest are strong enough.
I fear Seagulls new friends Peace Dove and Turkey appears to be not big fighters .....

Hi Measond,
wow, i like your Peace Dove, welcome on board

Hi Prvt. Toter,
OK, "bird war" is a hard word, let´s call it "bird story". :ninja:
Your Turkey is fantastic, but I fear he and Peace Dove will have it not easy with Pelikan and Eagle.
As you already mentioned Pelikan seems to be a little bit mad and Eagle is a (horny) aristocratic predator with a big ego and a small brain. :gaah:

Raths, great practice sheet, I should do a little more of that

pterodactylus... nice century old ink stck... really neat.

plistumi... black swan.... had a pair of white swans nesting in nearby pond... nice from a distance,,, really mean close up..good rendering.

fpn_1371012898__peace_picket.jpg

Ink used for outlines and lettering was Zhivago 60/40 water mx... usng the Jinhao with a nemosne EF nib... becoming a favorite for daily writing... Note how the watercolor does not affect the Zhivago ink... pretty good water resistance..unlike the chesterfiield Mahogony below... a little H2O yields this ink.

Hoping to try the Nemosine 0.8 mm nib on my next fill.

  • 2 weeks later...

I usually lurk on the writing boards, but I see drawings and I get interested.

This is done with a teeny MT Swan ringtop with an Aikin Lambert dip nib of superior flex qualities on some old Disney storyboard paper. They made the stuff from rag with a lovely smooth surface - I'm glad I waited so long to clean out my closets.

Not a bird, but this was done with a Waterman 452 1/2v and a 14 psf. Never drawn with fountain pens before and i kind of like using these. The Ink is Pelikan Edelstein Smokey Quartz, which has a nice ability to wash out with water.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
