Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had been to this shop? I visited there early this week and have to say they have a fantastic collection on offer and the member of staff was really friendly and helpful. Will be going back on Friday to make a purchase. Does anyone have any interesting purchases from this store or stories?

Hi Ben,

No personal experience of that particular shop/branch but really glad you have taken the time to share your experience of one of our (increasingly rare) bricks and mortar fountain pen retailers.

Whilst Blue Water is not exactly local for me, I will most certainly visit Websters on my next trip to Kent. Thanks for the heads up

Look forward to hearing about your purchase.

Pavoni.

Hi

I found it a couple of weeks ago, it's opposite the Montblanc Boutique where I dropped my 149 off for repair.

Websters do have a wonderful selection of pens don't they, prices are always the top end of RRP unfortunately so no good for the bargain hunter but for a place to drool over some of the best pens around it cannot be beaten, especially in the South East of England.

I came away with a Rose Gold Montegrappa Fortuna, will have another look when I get the call from MB to say my pen is fixed or knowing my luck when they phone to say how much over the standard £80 the repair will be as it needs a new barrel, nib section and nib collar so doubt that will come under the standard service charge.

I bit like "The Pen Shop" then I mean I only buy inks from the pen shop as the pens are so over priced.

Not a problem will up date you when I have my next pen/accessories. There is also a Mont Blanc Boutique, directly opposite from Websters (which they also run).

Yes, I also noticed that the price of most of the pens weren't exactly 'cheap' or better value for money than what I have seen from the web. But the member of staff was really friendly and only too willing to give advice on cleaning a fountain pen to repairs that they do.

  • 1 year later...

Latest reports are that Webster's appears to have closed; the branches are locked up, the website's down and no-one's monitoring the Facebook page.

Yes, I visited Bluewater in Kent the other week. The Mont Blanc boutique is still going, but the shop looks like it is all shut up, which is a real shame. Especially as there has been an increase in fo sales.

Oh that is bad news. It's the nearest place to me that had a decent range of pens.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Try Andy's Pens in Tonbridge.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
