Coincidentally, both my Glenmont red-black ebonite pen and a new Allan's journal (black, with their signature red under gilt page edging) will arrive in the mail tomorrow--with some Rouge Hematite, I'll be all set...!

Just discovered the Edison Group Buy for 2014. Missed it, but would like to be part of this group buy for 2015. How do I go about do this??? Actually preparing to purchase an Edison in January-February 2015. This will be my first one. I've looked at the Beaumont & Collier. I am excited about being able to add a couple of Edisons to my growing collection.

I have received my acrylic Glenmont, no. 33 of 66. It's beautiful.

Congratulations! How about a photo (or two)? mine is still stuck in UK Customs. :(

I'm not very good at the photo thing, but I'll try. It is a slightly darker burgundy color than it appears here but I wanted to get some sunlight on it. For some really great pictures of #1 in the acrylic, check out this post, the color is much better.

I've just had a letter from Parcelforce advising me of the charges to be paid before I can get my pen delivered. What a nasty surprise! £34.62. I was expecting a customs charge and the usual £8 handling charge, but I have never paid import VAT before. Perhaps I've just been lucky in the past, but I certainly wasn't expecting it. I'll definitely have to think carefully before buying from abroad in the future.

Well, I was "lucky" -

Had to pay only $33 taxes to the Israeli Treasury.

BUT -

WOW, what a smooth writer. it glides over the paper

My acrylic Glenmont arrived yesterday afternoon and it's gorgeous! I got number 14 of 63, with a 1.1 nib. I love the slice of acrylic which shows what the material looks like before polishing takes place, and the brass bookmark.

I was intending to put it away for Christmas, but I think it will be filled with rouge hematite and used to write my Christmas cards.

It worked out very expensive for me, with having to pay £34 import duty, so I probably won't be able to do it again next year.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
