Pocket Pen...

Does anyone know anything about the Lanbitou pocket fountain pens, or others? I've only discovred their existance a couple days ago, and I'm curious. Figured I'd start with something "cheap" just to play around before getting a higher valued Pocket pen. And I do know about the Pilot Elites, botht eh 100 or so dollar and higher, and the $20 US dollar version. But i'm looking for alternatives.

Kaweco sport make cool pocket pens. They come in a variety of colours, and it believe they used to make piston fill versions. Those will be vintage.

 

I'm thinking of getting a pocket pen myself. Something to keep in a coat picket. Let us know how you go.

I have a Jinhao missile pen which I suspect is the same as the Lanbitou. It writes a nice fine line but it's very small and slim. I don't think I would want to write with it for an extended period of time.

 

I love my Kaweco Sport. Very comfortable to write with and is just a sturdy little pen. You can choose your nib size and it comes in plenty of colors.

 

I've never tried one but a lot of people seem very pleased with the Pilot Petite.

I have the Ohto Tasche, and like it. Nice and small, about the size of my wallet, and it fits next to the wallet in my pocket.

I debated between the Tasche and the Rook, before going with the Tasche. But I may get a Rook later.

I bought a Lanbitou pocket pen off eBay awhile ago, but it is seriously small. Capacity might be 5 or 6 drips.....

It has a squeeze converter which doesn't take up more than a couple of drips, but if one takes off the metal shield

and squeezes the sac one can fill to capacity. It is much too small for me so I gave it to my daughter, who enjoys it

to no end. Cheap thrills.

This one being scratchable aluminum instead of color plastic doesn't change that much here but...

Okay, I am going to assume that you mean a "vest pocket" pen, or a pen suitable for the dress shirts that have

shallow breast pockets.

The Parker 45 and the Reform 1745 are lightweight pens.

The TWSBI Mini and the Rosetta Napoleon are short thick pens for shallow pockets. Both are made to be used

with cap posted, so they become full-size pens.

The Esterbrook SJ is a small pen.

I've used a lot of pocket pens and for under $50, your best bets are the Kaweco Sport and the Pilot Prera. The Kaweco's dependable, has lots of colors and nib options. The Prera writes a lovely fine line and also comes in a bunch of colors.

 

You could spend less than this, but you end up getting less, too. These two are easily my best value pens.

I keep my wallet and Ohto Tasche in my FRONT pants pocket.

So I do NOT sit on the pen.

The Tasche is actually thinner than my wallet, so sometimes I have to feel for it.

I have carried a TWSBI Mini Classic filled with Kung Te Cheng in my pants pocket for over a year. Small and pretty scratch resistant.

Well from the digging I've done by reading your guys' stuff and some other things, I think I might stop being a cheap (bleep), save up $110 or so, and buy a Pilot Elite 95S haha. It seems to have quite a reputation even though it came out last year only. There is the cheaper version but apparently it isn't that great for its price, and those Lanbitou's have a horrid ink capacity. You guys helped a lot!

My response is a little late. I have this pen. It is a hair shorter but otherwise very similar to a Fisher Space Pen. Actually I bought 10 for $20 with free shipping. I've tried four of them and two had problems. One was split at the section and another has a leak where the sac attaches. The two which work write very smooth and wet. So my experience so far is 50/50.

Onto makes three pens this size. Rook, Tasche and Poche. The first two @$15 the last $25.

Pilot Petit1 is a similar size but thicker in diameter.

I have and do carry a working Lanbitou clipped in a front pocket, with a Fisher in the other front pocket. Good luck.

I too, frequent Pelahale's site and have watched the video you posted, (being from Hawaii, I always think his Youtube site is "Pele Hale", meaning "House of Pele"!) Based on that, and other research, I bought the Pilot Elite 95S on ebay. With shipping, came out to about $105 USD.

 

Overall assessment is I love it! The 14K nib is very smooth. With the hooded front section, dry out is not a problem, (I ordered my with a M nib).

 

Other things I like about the pen: light weight, allowing me to write without exerting too much pressure, yet soft enough to exert some flex, affording variation of line, without fatiguing my hand; slip on/off cap, allowing for easier access; long/short configuration leads to perfect balance fore and aft when posted; internal spring clip, allowing for secure fastening on many types of fabrics; and last, but not least, overall size when capped. This makes for a perfect everyday pen. The only limitation is the small ink capacity with the CON20 converter. Not a problem for me though, as I appreciate the opportunities throughout the day to refill the pen. Also, because it does not hold too much ink at a time, changing of ink colour is more convenient.

 

I would whole heartedly recommend this pen to you. IMO, it is great value for your money. Best wishes and good writing!
