The Woes Of A First Lost Fountain Pen

Hello everyone, Today is a very sad day. I take public transportation to get to college and normally everything is fine. Well today when I took the bus I did not fully zip my purse after paying my fare. This would normally have not been a problem. It came back to bite me after I went to disembark a packed bus with several people trying to squeeze by me. One of these pushy people knocked my purse and all its contents to the floor including my precious Lamy Safari. I stuffed my things back into my purse. I believed I had my Lamy back in my purse until i went to grab my wallet to pay for coffee and sign my receipt. That led me to frantically searching my purse and bookbag to no avail. I called the bus station and asked them to have the driver check the bus where i sat and if found to give it to the attendant at the ticket booth. I hope they find it because I am super devastated!

I feel your pain. I had my first loss last Saturday at my local grocery store. In a hurry to buy groceries to make appetizers for a party and somehow misplaced it. Did not notice until the next morning and went back to the store to check. It had not been turned in to lost and found. I asked that they watch for it and call me if found. But not much hope since they had never seen a fountain pen and looked at me like I was speaking another language.

 

Mine was a beautiful Waterman Marine Amber Carene that I had purchased in Washington DC at Christmas time.

 

What color and nib size on your Safari?

I feel your loss. I know how I would feel if I lost one of my pens. I hope somehow they find it on the bus.

Loosing your first fountain pen is blow but it does really make you appreciate your pens and makes you more careful.

 

I lost my previous Parker Sonnet back in October so I know how bad it feels. At the end of the loosing a pen means that there is space in your pen box to be filled so you can either you can replace it with perhaps a better model.

 

That's essentially what I did had not brought a in about six months to save up for a new Sonnet which is going to stay safely at home especially as this new one is my for now "grail".

 

I hope the grief isn't too bad.

 

P.s. Also you never know you may create a new fountain pen fan in it's potential new owner (that what I like think happened with mine). That can't be a bad thing!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Hope they manage to find it! This is one instance when I'm actually banking on others' finding fountain pens unattractive or worthless :/

 

On a side note, I've nearly lost my Lamy (haha) 2000 on four separate occassions! Once at a club (yikes), once in a movie house, and twice at school. The spring-loaded clip is just too dang loose fitting.

Damn, sorry to hear about the Carene! Hope that they find that as well. Why not send them a pic? It's definitely a pen that'd stand out.

And the Sonnet... yikes, this seems to happen much too often. Glad you got a replacement, though.

It was a fine nib black safari. With a medium nib in the Ziploc baggie I carried it in. When I got on the bus I looked for it and found only the inky fingerprinted baggie.

I'm sorry to hear about both pens. I'd hate to loose any of mine. This is a good time to go Lamy shopping though, they have the special colors out now.

The good thing about losing a safari.....is that you can afford to lose it. It`s a current production pen, and quite inexpensive(for a westerner).

-sigh- yes, losing fountain pens is an awful thing, I recently lost my Nemosine Singularity and miss it terribly, and then more recently my wife dropped my Waterman Hemisphere and obliterated the nib on it... It's amazing how much a simple thing like a pen means to us...

I would like to send it to you since I know college students don't always have a lot of disposable income. This is exactly why certain pens of mine never leave the house. I have some that were gifted to me that in no way would I be able to afford to replace on my income. I am actually thinking of adding them to the renters insurance policy.

Some people would be like 'you want to add what to your renter's insurance?', but I'm sure insurance agents have heard it all before.

Anything of decent value can be added. Especially collections of things that you could not replace.
