Awesome stuff - thank you!

A question. You do not seem to have an issue with bumpy paper. I encounter bumps and lumps and grooves on my paper, no matter which paper I use. Do you smooth your paper in any way before writing on it?

Another question.

Have you considered putting these sort of clips on to a single cd/usb and selling them? They would make a wonderful resource and I would definitely want one! Just to watch them is inspiring and motivational and relaxing and contenting and refreshing.

(would also stop pirating them off of youtube, not that I would do such a thing you understand  )

Stompie :

I use Mondi IQ smooth 100gsm paper for almost everything. It is intended for laserjet/inkjet printers and is perfect for the most delicate of upstroke hairlines., and it's inexpensive. It sound as though you may be using a textured paper, such as that made for watercolour(?)

I'm sure that there must be other papers out there which are just as good. I don't experiment much - if I find something I like - I stick with it!

The DVD video shown in my signature, is a commercial venture, comprising full alphabets (upper & lower) and short text examples of six basic styles of writing - Formal Italic, Copperplate, Gothic, Uncial, Cursive Italic & Foundational.

On the other hand, the videos posted here, are just for fun, and if others find them interesting, that's good enough for me. :)

Because of you, I bought a ream of that paper. However, I still find little channels and bumps and that is why I raised the question. This is mostly evident when I am using a fine nib such as a crow quill or 303.

Regarding the dvd thing, I enjoy watching the actual flow of when you are writing something, more so than an instructional dvd.

At night I like to just relax and watch handwriting clips just to soothe my brain from the days activities.

So, l think I will send you a PM on this topic ;)

#2 the Manuscript italic - are you applying pressure on your downstrokes?

No undue pressure on downstrokes. The shape of the nib does the job on its own.

As a side issue, I was interested to see that you're using the post number (#2) for identification. It's not used much, and yet it's such a useful way of locating items - especially as threads grow in size.

Excellent videos. Thanks for posting.

Question: What nib/ink combination are you using in the Ackerman Pump Pen?

Best regards,

Tim

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
