Toucan (Australian) Ink Group Buy?... Gauging Interest

Recommended Posts

Amber and I just finished up a successful group buy for the new P.K. Akkerman small bottle inks.

Now, we're trying to gauge the potential interest for a group buy (North American) for Toucan Inks. These are the inks from Just Write in Australia, that generally come in 30ml or 60ml pouches. These inks are unavailable in North America unless you pay some pretty hefty shipping, or have a friend who can send you some inks.

There are 14 colors: Click here to see swabs - Click here to see writing samples

Our initial thought are that we would allow people to buy individual pouches of ink, or the complete set of 14 pouches.

If we get enough participation, we think the shipping to the US will balance out any potential group discount combined with the currency conversion. What that means is that the prices listed on the Just Write website will be your approximate costs before you add in shipping from Amber to you.

If that holds, it means you could get 30ml in each of 14 colors. That's 420 ml for about $45 (before additional shipping).

For comparison, 4 bottles of Noodler's would be about 340 ml for about $50 (before shipping)

So.....Who would be interested in a group buy?

If you think you'll like to join in, speak up. And indicate how much you think you'll want. Your response is not an order--we're trying to see what kind of interest there is before we move forward.

I would love to join this but I am in the wrong country :(

As these inks are harder to get out of Australia you should get a lot of interest. I will watch in interest as to where this leads because I've been thinking about a group buy for New Zealand

The post above should not be regarded as the absolute and undeniable truth and facts as it may contain the garbled mutterings of an overworked, stressed and nonsensical student who may or may not be on the brink of insanity.
Please regard her with ten grains of salt and stay out of arms reach and at least ten metres away.

Much obliged,
Crazy Cat Lady

They ship to NZ super cheap. No need for group.

I think I would be interested - not sure how many I would want or what size - it's been a hard day at work and I'm even more off the wall than the Crazy Cat Lady.

Hmm... looks they don't have the 150 ml pouches right now, but if they do, we can offer that.

They have 14 colors and the they offer a set with all 14 colors for the price of just over 12. Anyway, just let us know if you are interested and we'll see about what to put together. Right now, the cost for all 14 colors in 60 ml pouches will run us about $65 shipped in to the US.

Sounds good to me.

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I'm in for the full set also. And I realize this is my first post so if there's any concerns please let me know! I've been reading this site for a while and seems fitting my first post is about buying more ink when I have enough to last a lifetime! :-)

Just in case anyone is interested in the larger sizes, they dropped them due to lack of interest, but Kevin was more than willing to go out of his way to get me either size when I contacted him. I'm sure that you would be able to get your hands on the larger sizes if you inquired.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
