March Ink Drop! *flails*

My very first Ink Drop shipment showed up today. \o/

I'm very happy with it. Two of them are inks I already have, but I like them so I'm fine with getting more. The remaining three are new to me and are colors I can plausibly use. I'll have to empty out some pens tonight so I can play.

Which two do you already have!? I already have entire bottles of Salix and Scabiosa, but I think I'm going to mix the samples to get an indigo. Otherwise, I'm quite excited about the two Noodler's inks, just meh about the Platinum (I don't use black ink, except for mixing).

It's always like Christmas morning when the ink drop arrives! Lovely colors, and I'm not mentioning what they are...just lovely!

Of course you could pass on/share your duplicates with other friends...

Yogalarva, do try the Platinum just don't mix it with anything. I haven't tried either of the Noodlers.

Thanks. :-) I'm adventurous, but not enough so to try and mix pigmented inks with dye-based ones. I want to try it, I just have no idea what I would use black ink for - that's kind of why I got into FPs in the first place, to not use black ink anymore!

I have Salix and Scabiosa; one of my Al-Stars is permanently dedicated to this duo. I do use black ink, but since I have Heart of Darkness I'm not really in the market for another permanent black. Still, it will be fun to see what a carbon black looks like.

Funny you say that; last week I had a friend over for tea and by the time she went home I'd lent her one of my pens to play with. I told her I'd help her out with ink samples if she decided to buy a pen. :)

I actually usually send the ones I don't fancy to my older brother. :-) He isn't as picky as I am, so his notes are getting pretty colorful...

First time in tears that I already have 2 of the inks, I have Salix and Scabiosa.

Change is not mandatory, Survival is not required.

I like the Platinum Carbon a lot!

The Green Gator is one of the worst inks I have ever tried!

I can appreciate Green Gator with a F or EF nib...not so much in a wider nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
