There are a couple of inks I miss but I only buy inks currently on the market. One of my favourite inks of the past was the old Sheaffelr Skrip Blue but I once saw some NOS bottles of this and other original Sheaffer Skrip in a thrift store and did not buy them. I find it too sad to dwell on discontinued ink: each time I used it would be a painful reminder that it is effectively gone. I prefer using ink with the feeling I will be able to replace it when I want to. If one I am using is discontinued, I just look for the next new similar ink I might like.

I have a bottle of Sheaffer Lavender. I like it a lot, and use it very rarely, to conserve it. I would love it if I were more certain of its future..

The Penman colours I would probably like to have. Some older Skrip colours (like peacock) as well.

You know? I'm the same way, except it's with pens. I don't mind writing with a pen as long as it's in production, but once it's discontinued, I'm worried I'll lose/damage it, and the worry takes the enjoyment out of using the pen for a daily carry.

The one ink that I wish was still in production would be Lamy Blue-black IG ink.

More by luck than judgement I've got a full bottle of Penman Sapphire and a couple of half empty carts (evaporated) of Sheaffer Peacock Blue. Both came with second hand pens I bought.

Parker Pen Man Sapphire of course

Ditto -- I wouldn't even have to be all that hot about it -- it's just a 1000 pens can't be wrong.

After everything I've heard about it, I would just like to hold a bottle of Parker Penman Sapphire. I'm not a fan of any blue ink, but there's got to be something about an ink named after a precious stone that everyone sighs with pleasure when remembering, and clearly still longing for it.

Penman Sapphire.

Levenger Fireball. Interesting color, especially if you let it evaporate a bit, and it is one fantastic ink for grading/marking papers. I'm down to my last half bottle...

MB blue black. I bought a bottle of the racing green, and I like it, but some others are OK.

Are there any ink manufacturers reading this thread?

PPS is the ink that more of us want back than any other ink.

However it has to be done properly. It needs to have the correct shade of blue. It needs to have the magic sheen which comes from metal-based dyes. It needs to behave well on paper, and it needs to dry quickly without being smearable.

Thanks, David. I know you're absolutely right because otherwise you wouldn't have posted so many of your home-made "substitutes" here!!

I have two bottles (in the box) of MB Midnight Blue and am waiting for it's value to increase as much as the value has increased for the 4 million Beanie Babies I have in my spare room...

Edited to add: That the Iron Gall formula Midnight Blue, by the way.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
