What Is Your Favorite Sailor Pen And Nib!

Hello to all!

I started this topic because I wanted to find out from Sailor owners what is their favorite Sailor Pen and Nib. Also if anybody has any comments about certain Sailor pens/features that they don't care for, I would like to hear those as well.

I have saving up my money to purchase a Sailor pen (I have owned and sold several). The reason for this pen is that I want a good pen to use for my note taking for my Masters courses that I am to begin at the end of March.

I want this topic to be just about Sailor pens, not which pens I should buy from other companies (I plan on purchasing numerous pens this year, including a Nakaya).

My favorite Sailor is a 1911 with naginata-togi MF nib. But the ink capacity of the converter is small, and often I run out of ink in the middle of the day. I prefer the Pilot Custom 823 or a Parker Vacumatic for serious note-taking.

I have Sailor Realos with a fine nib and a medium nib and like them both. Would like them more if they had a bit more weight.

I have owned several Sailor pens (my last one was a 1911 L), and with my last pen, I really noticed that pen was rather light. Does anybody think that these pens are on the light side?

I think they're a perfect weight and balance, and I have large hands. I find that with heavier pens there can be fatigue with long writing sessions.

I like the cheaper pro coulour over the pro gear. The light teal color is one of my favorite pens. I like their fine nibs and that it is a nail. I do wish it had more ink capacity though.

Of the seven (Standard) 1911-Ms I own, my absolute favourite is the Brown Marble Profit Mozaique with a 14K, 0.9 mm. CI (by J. Mottishaw).

Well, I only have one, it's a Pro Gear with a Concord Emperor nib, which is about a medium fine right side up and rather broad if used upside down. Weight, balance and section are perfect for me, one of the most comfortable pens I own.

One of my Sailor Sterline Silver pens has been in my daily rotation. I have 3 of them; but, I am using this one unit only.

And, one of the makie pens is also in my daily rotation. The other is kept in the original bag for semi permanent storage.

My Pro Gear fits in my shirt pocket perfectly for every day carry. The Fine nib is very precise for work needs...and my full size Profit with its EF nib is wonderful too!

My favourite is my Teal Slim Professional Gear (also called Sapporo) with a fine nib. Beautiful pen, just the right weight, fabulous nib. As others have mentioned the convertors do not hold so much (though the fine nibs do not use much) so I simply refill the cartridges with a syringe.

I have tried both the Zoom nibs and the Naginatatogi MF nibs but sold them again as found them far too wide and the Zoom nib did not really show any variation.

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

I have only a 1911 MS 14k nib. Frictionless and feather-like are the two words I can come up in with my mind. Writing is smooth and the pen almost feather-like compared with my Pelikan M730 and M800 (a least 1/3 lighter). It's perfect for carrying around. I am thinking of the next Sailor with a finer nib for writing small letters. I fancy the King of Pens Niginata-togi MF, though it perhaps may not be perfect for writing horizontally.

My favorite is the 1911 21K (L) with firm F nib. I also have a couple of Somikos, one with F the other M. I had a Pro Gear with Naginata Togi nib, but sold it because the pen just did not fit my hand. I would like to try a 1911 M with F nib though.

My Sailor large 1911 with a Music nib is my favorite out of the dozen I have.

Hi aardvark--how do you find your music nib? I am thinking a bit about getting a 1911 L with a stubbed music nib--I'm just curious about how the nib feels in its original form.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
