Since the box and the pen were both authentic but not original you may have a letter for each.

That the two items did not come together. The box is likely for a later pen and not THAT pen.

the box is the standard box from the early 90ties ... at least here in Germany many smaller retailer still have some old pens and would sell the pens in whatever box comes to their hands first. So I bet you will find all sorts of combinations of pens and boxes.

MB's statement still sounds weird to me ...

We regret to inform you that this item is not a genuine Montblanc product and therefore we are not in a position to service it.

I wish I could work out how to quote that quote but I can't - any help how to do that would be appreciated.

Meanwhile, surely the phrase 'We regret to inform you that this item is not a genuine Montblanc product and therefore we are not in a position to service it' must be referring to the pen rather than the box.

I still don't get why Richemont have sent this.

On reflection and after HermetiC comments I if I were you I would phone Montblanc and arrange to send photos to them. I had a close look at the Classic Generations on ebay (lots) and saw a UK crowd offering the same as yours. My concern is that the difference between that ,yours and others offered the same as yours is that the male thread the top barrel screws into is the same colour as the barrel whereas those others that show the thread is metal ,or in the case of other older classics clear plastic as it is a separate section to the barrels.

Thank you for your response. To be completely honest with you I'm really new to fountain pens so I'm not too familiar with what you're referring to. I did see this on ebay which I believe is the same exact pen. Is this the one you saw too? --> http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Rare-Maroon-Bordeaux-Burgundy-Montblanc-Classic-Generation-Fountain-Pen-/321357212507?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_Camcorders&hash=item4ad261eb5b

It looks perfectly legit to me. I think the Classic/Generations has been out of the MB lineup for a while and the C/C pens are most often counterfeited, so I wouldn't be surprised that someone who wasn't familiar with the older pens immediately concluded it was a fake.

Maybe Max or Tom could contribute to this?

Thanks for your response! I agree with you, those are much more commonly counterfeited. It's probably very unlikely that they counterfeited this particular (older) style. By the way... Max & Tom never showed up.. haha! :lticaptd:

I have the same feeling with a MB nº 32 (1960)

Hope this helps...

Your pen looks right to me

Thanks for your response! It gave me that extra peace of mind I needed. Hope you're having a wonderful day! :)

Hi @jar, I did not send the box in with the pen so they didn't get to look at the box. However, on the description section of the letter, they did describe it as "13100 C Classic Fountain Pen" etc. just like on the box but I'm honestly not sure if the pen & box go together. Thanks for your responses!

Thanks for that info, it's always interesting to learn something new! You're right, I bought two Meisterstuck classique rollerball pens each from a different Montblanc boutique roughly around the same time, one came in a much older looking box, and the other came in a classier/ more modern looking box. My box pictured above actually says it was made in Germany! :)

This pen is quite an old version, and was never intended to be anything like a top of the range pen. It was always a lower end model. Maybe that's why it feels slightly different and looks less shiny. Or the previous owner could have done something to it that made it a bit dull.

The screw threads where the section screws onto the barrel should definitely be the same colour as the section in this model.

I'm confident it's authentic. I hope you enjoy using it.

Hi Chrissy,

Thank you so much for all your responses, they all truly helped! I can finally start to enjoy this pen now that I've gotten it back from them! What pen(s) are you currently using? :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
