Am I Seeing Mb Vintage Fakes On Ebay?!?!

Doing my usual eBay cruising while my son sleeps and found these three auctions for MB pens:

1. Green hatch pattern w/replacement gold nib

2. Cream & gold w/glass nib

3. Cream & pearl w/gold glass nib

When I started looking at the pens in detail, I noticed a few things:

- the MB stamps look kind of 'modern' (font, imprint has gunk around it, which I've never seen w/any of my vintage MBs, and certainly not on the 14x Meisterstucks...)

- the Meisterstuck is engraved at the end of the cap and the 'K' looks like it's wiped out

- the MB stars look a little like decals

- the clips are all wrong (although there's plenty of MBs with replacement clips out there)

- the blind caps look strange (FWIW, these could be replacements...)

- there's no cap bands and/or WW-II era engravings where the cap bands would have been otherwise

- I don't ever remember seeing an MB with a glass nib...although I don't see why these couldn't exist.

This triggered my memory of Francis' previous post of his fake vintage MB and it made me wonder if these are now filtering through to eBay? Maybe I'm just paranoid (I've been accused of worse) but what do you think?

In the sellers defence he does say he is just listing them as German made piston fillers as he had not seen Montblanc pens like the three he is selling before.

I have seen the design before but cannot for the life of me remember where.

Shame there are no nib shots.

Hi,

I have an Osmia 126 with the pattern of the first pen. The ebay pen is not a 126 but some pen from the Heidelberg area?

What they did was to heat stamp a Montblanc sign, put on a snowcap from an old parts pen, and used a Soennecken candy stripe pen.

If the ad had no "Montblanc" mentioned in the title, then it's ok and not misleading/malicious, but since the entry has the word "Montblanc" in there, the seller is advertising a fake pen and should be reported and removed.

Best regards, Kai

I called Ebay and they had me relist them without mentioning the word Montblanc to stay safe , as Sunnerd stated.

I saw them on Ebay Germany last month. Paid $400 Canadian.

When I got them, I didn't see anything similar on Ebay , So I listed them as pens with Montblanc imprints ,as I don't know much about old Montblancs and there isn't much info ,on early colorful ones atleast...

So,they are back on for good if anyone is interested in them, whatever they are:)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
